    Consumer boycotts can be effective

    October 18, 2007

A boycott of products or the threat of a boycott can be effective. Recently, Procter & Gamble changed the music on a Charmin toilet paper TV ad featuring music from Handel’s “Messiah” after consumer complaints nationwide. Consumers have clout.

  • Hi!

I just spent about 3 hours reading and reading and reading soooo many different campaigns and how all of this works. At first I was psyched when reading about the basic idea of how things work. However, as I continued to read on I noticed that it seemed like 95% of the campaigns have little to no one that have joined them. This seems so bizarre to me. It seems that if someone went through the effort to start a campaign that they would at least be able to get their best friend to join. It seems many if not most campaigns were just abandoned? Could you please explain to me if I’m missing something here?

    Hello, Mary.

I just joined, and like you, I love the concept of the point, which I found through groupon (another great idea!)

I actually joined because I have a specific campaign in mind and plan to enlist family members from around the country to get my Grandmother a much needed computer (so she can join the point…teehee)

She wants to be on facebook and e-mail and keep in touch with all of her scattered grandchildren and nieces and nephews and all.

My grandmother had 7 children and her sister had six. I didn’t know her brother that well and I only met 3 of his children, but I am sure there are more.

Hopefully, If I send out the call, they will respond.

I believe that if you start with a core group, that others will join. People want to succeed.

I hope I am right. Wish me luck!

Hello. In the county I live in (Burke County, NC) there are approximately 15-25 animals are euthanized daily. This includes puppies, kittens, and pregnant females. I currently have two dogs and a cat. My family saved one of my dogs from euthanization at the shelter in Marion. His previous owner had died. I adopted my other dog from Mercy Animal Rescue after my son died. My cat came from a neighbor, who didn’t really give him to me, but my landlord observed her slam his paw in the door. His paw won’t ever heal all the way. My point is, I am wondering how to go about getting euthanization to stop, unless the pet is unadoptable (sick, violent). Please let me know!!!

    Hello, Amamda.

I am just shooting in the dark here, but have you contacted national organizations that work in the interest of animals? Also, do you want to take political action, like petitioning lawmakers or create or support shelters who can give these animals an alternative?

Perhaps, you want people to make the same direct action that you have in actually adopting animals that would otherwise perish.

I feel that your best bet is to plan one specific goal that leads to your greater goal. You may even want to build on those goals as each succeeds. Start with a letter writing campaign and then move on to an adoption campaign (or the other way around).

Best wishes and blessings however you procede.

I love life. I am a big fan of the effort to fight cognitive decline. I follow many brain training and memory improvement programs and have put together a site that reviews the products. Here, are a couple links to some of these reviews:
