Community : Brainstorm : TEXAS MEDICAL MARIJUANA LAW

The government of Texas is going to soon have to decide rather or not to make accept the medical marijuana law. there is a club that i believe is called DFWNRML. they have a blog on myspace asking for all residents in Texas to call there representatives and ask them to vote in favor of the medical marijuana law. So i ask this rhetorical question. are we just in a long prohibition period. And once most states accept the medical marijuana law, will the government open there minds and eyes and notice that hemp and marijuana are not bad at all.

Yeah, once 50% of states accept IT, Then i belive Obama will accept it!

i feel obama woulnt have a problem accepting the bill. i mean look at where he comes from and how he grew up. i think he has to know that marijuana isnt bad. im glad im a texas citizen but hopefully this bill gets passed..and soon.

Those interested in marijuana in Texas, please look at my campaign. Obama may support it, but Texan lawmakers will not. People that smoke marijuana, even for medicinal purposes, get heavier sentences than most molesters and rapists, and even some murderers.

medical mj? lets just call it what it is, rec.use mj. personally, if cigs. are legal, which are more harmful, then why not mj?

perhaps mj will be legal if someone like camel or marlboro was to jump on the bandwagon? this is just one person’s opinion.

i am a pitbull owner, supporter. this is what got me to write to you. hope all goes well with that. they are trying to ban pitbulls here in oregon. pitbulls are not the problem, its irresponsible owners. if you ban all the pitbulls, then its just going to be another breed they mishandle, then that one will be the big public enemy. if they smartened up, they would ban stupid people from owning dogs or being in control of dogs at all. that is the real problem.

same with mj. the problem is not the product, its the mis use of the product. that is, idiots. alcohol is a much more deadly product, but its legal. how many fatal alcohol related incidents? how many fatal mj incidents have we ever heard of? if you dont count a deal gone bad? if mj were legal and regulated by the state, it would be very safe to purchase, and then what?

i am NOT a smoker. but i am not a hater of mj either. i am a person who has a problem with idiots who abuse a product, or a dog, then the government/public try to blame the problem on the product or dog. how dumb is that???

heather….how dont agree with what you said about people who smoke med weed or reg weed that they get heavier sentences for murders. think of this. the only reason why weed is illegal is because the government can not tax it. hopefully we are just in a prohibition like back in the day with alcohol. but most people who get arrested for bud either have small sax or they have quantity and are dealing. dealers with over two onces get a felony fine and could go to jail for if the law hasnt changed no less than 3 years. and the ones that have under an ounce get a misdemeanorand at least a ticket and maby probation but most likely community service. you cant compare weed to murder or anything thing that harms people. weed should be compared to medications or anything else that can effect the body by helping it….also alcohol. weed is an herb and it actually helps the body and also it can help prevent diseases.

Tristan, I was not comparing marijuana to murder. I’ve known murders to get 3 year sentences. If you would actually pay attention to what I wrote, you would understand that it is a travesty on some of the sentences people with marijuana possession get compared to violent offenders. My husband had less than what is needed for a pin joint, and will get 10 years in prison because he can’t pay off his probation in time, and it seems like no one really cares. He honestly will be doing more time than murderers I personally know. So, please pay attention to what people say instead of shining someone that is trying to make a difference in a negative light.

ok well i think you were misunderstanding what i was trying to say. i meant in a shorter way. “you dont have to compare weed with murder, because peopl get charged for alcohol everyday for DUI’s and for vehicular manslaughter. those people go to jail for almost life when some one who got busted with 2 ounces gets charged for possession, paraphernalia for all the baggies that person might have and any smoking tool. they can get charged if the county wants to try it is for drug trafficking.” ok so there is that. and please next time, and this is to everyone. if you dont understand what i say then just send message about it. and i will do the same. and heather i wasnt trying to go against what you were saying i was just wanting to put another opinion on this topic and since its a discussion i was jus thinkin i should give out some more info about weed in my opinion. thanks.

the ongoing bullshit sourrounding the debate as to legalize marijuana is plain stupid. legalize it and get it over with. i will loose faith in my represenatives if they do not. if they do not legalize it by the time of the nre election we need to get a canidate and gover canadate sympathetic to the cause. there are enough of us. all we need to do is band together.

Does anyone here really think that Texas will legalize Marijuana? If so when and how do you think it will come about?

IMHO I don’t think the majority of good citizens of this state have an unbiased educational awareness of the issue. Their education surrounding Cannabis is limited to the past propaganda that supports the illegal status of Marijuana. I think most Texas citizens uphold the invalid claims they’ve heard that relate marijuana to criminal activity.
What is needed IMO is creating and getting a focused educational campaign going that removes the untruths and presents scientific facts including the resources to confirm those facts into the hands, hearts and minds of Texas citizens. The people that would otherwise dismiss the concept of Legalized Cannabis need to understand it better, how and why it can be used medically(works compatibly with our endigiounous endocannabinoid systems) , how and why industrial Hemp makes sense to our state and the world (Fiber, Oil, Food), how and why recreational use of Cannabis makes any sense at all (healthier than currently legal alternatives).
I was not a legalization supporter until I took the time to educate myself. This education came only after a personal brush with Cancer and the need for drugs that reduced the chemotherapy side effects i was enduring.
Most folks won’t take the time to go on such a fact finding mission. It will either take the creative genius of many to formulate a striking educational campaign that gets their attention or a monumental change in the federal government’s stance to jar them awake on this particular subject.
The items I’ve discussed are only part of the answer, We also have many people in this state that give the Cannabis plant a bad name by not being responsible citizens when talking about it, while using it and not being educated themselves about it’s usefulness and what constitutes abusive behavior.
My hope is that the citizens of Texas that have an understanding of this topic continue to join in the debate and the fight for legalization.
It’s time we collectively stop

• Denying Farmers a robust Hemp crop


• Crippling Hemp based product production


• Demonizing a plant
