Vibrant flowers, plants, trees and butterflies can grow anywhere, but Chicago’s south side does not come to the top of the list. Despite all the obstacles around the neighborhood, (drugs, high violent crime, unemployment and kids concerned for their safety), the garden is blossoming.
Imagine Englewood IF has brought together many volunteers throughout Englewood and Chicago to work every week in the garden for the past three years. The garden’s beauty offers a safe place to dream of what else can happen in Englewood if we work together. However, we need the tools to get the job done and this is where we need help.
The Chicago Sun-Times ran an article about the hope the garden brings. Unfortunately, some crooks read the article and broke into our tool shed afterwards. I know it’s been awhile, but in case anyone was wondering . . . I was reassured by Andrew’s response, and I posted my credit card information the same day. If you haven’t yet, please consider donating to this very achievable, very good cause.

I have joined this campaign, but I have not yet put my credit card on file. In order to join a fund-raising campaign, is it necessary that one’s credit card info be stored indefinitely by The Point? I have no intention of resigning, but I would prefer that my credit card info be stored nowhere but in my wallet.

Andrew Mason replied on Sep 27, 2007You have to give your credit card information when you join, but your card won’t be charged unless the campaign reaches its tipping point.
Don’t worry about privacy — your payment information goes directly to a super-secure Payment Gateway called TrustCommerce (http://trustcommerce.com/). We just see a dummy code that allows us to charge your card when the campaign tips; we never see your card information. So even if The Point was hacked, which by the way would be embarrassing because our lead programmer Brendan asks us to call him “Unhackable,” there’s no risk of any personal information being disclosed.
