If 50 people join this social contract, I will start a raise money campaign to encourage the release of the Traders season two DVD. If you join this campaign, your only obligation is to spread the word — reach out to people you know who might be interested in joining the raise money campaign.
(Sorry for the repost, the original was garbled.)
We have reached the tipping point for Phase 1! Thank you everyone for participating.
Phase 2 is a raise money campaign. The question I don’t know the answer to is how much money do we need as a carrot to convince the rights holders to produce a Season Two DVD?
We can do this in one of two ways:
1. Pure profit campaign: When Traders Season Two becomes available on DVD from amazon.com for under $40 USD, all money raised will be given to the rights holders. Campaign members can donate any amount.
2. Purchase campaign: Campaign members are committing to purchase Traders Season Two. Membership will require a minimum contribution. When we reach a threshold amount, we will contact the rights holders and pressure them to produce Traders Season Two.
Option 1 seems like the simplest and most flexible way to do it. It doesn’t guarantee a fixed number of sales to the rights holders, but it demonstrates interest backed by money.
Option 2 means we would need a good estimate of the retail pricing for Traders Season Two and a good estimate of the number of units required to make producing the DVDs profitable for the rights holders. I think This is complicated and requires expert knowledge that we don’t have available.
Your feedback is really important, please post to the discussion.
Hi,
I’d like to know how giving money to rights holders or contributing money as a commitment to purchase future DVDs would convince a huge company like Alliance Atlantis to release further seasons.
What happens to the money if no further DVDs are produced? And how much money are we talking about? Why can’t we just promise to purchase future seasons (as we all want to) without there being money involved?
I thought it would be a matter of convincing the company/rights holders that there’s an interested market out there and garnering enough names on a petition to make them think about it as a viable option.
Other series are released to DVD without the need to pay the rights holders to do so.
I think there is more of a market for ‘Traders’ now than there was when season 1 was released (myself included, as I had never heard of the series back then). Wouldn’t it be a matter of using the 50 people on this petition so far to promote further signatures and convince the rights holders that there are enough interested people, and that they come from countries outside Canada and America? (I am from the UK)
Right now there are people asking where they can find copies of episodes on the IMDB and elsewhere, so there’s plenty of interest.
Sorry, seems I just need clarification on the money thing.
Kind Regards.

‘Traders Season Two DVD’ has reached the tipping point!
That means that it’s time for everybody to complete the pledge: “we will join.”
Remember that your participation is critical to the campaign’s success. With your help and only with your help will you successfully achieve your goal.
I watched first season with great interest. With all financial news these days, I am surprised they are not running this show on at least some channels in US.
Looking forward to this and subsequent seasons releases.
