Animals are very nice and sweet creatures that have plenty of natural threats and enemies; it’s part of the food chain right? But at least in nature they have a chance of surviving, for example running away from predators. But what chance does a chicken (or cow, pig, etc. for that matter) have of defending itself at a slaughter plant when they are caged and fed into machines to be torn apart alive? It’s terrible. Not to mention before they’re actually tortured and killed they have to live with the anticipation of being killed. Many of us do love meat; to be honest I ate meat too up until this past year when it hit me all at once; mainly PETA’s site on the cattle changed my outlook on these issues. I have always been an animal lover but never really gave much thought to the foods (meat) I ate. Now I almost completely stopped eating meats because of the guilt. As good as it tastes, picturing what the animals went through for this meal just did not seam worth it.
Our government needs to better enforce our animal cruelty and protection laws to at least make their suffering minimal.
The single most important way of us helping would be to stop eating meats; or at least by gradually stopping. If you go to KFC twice a week, go once a week. If you eat KFC once a day, eat it every other day. I don’t like vegetables; there should be much better alternatives other than ‘Tofurky’, I agree. But if we all start by cutting back on our meat consumption we really will be saving many animals; a little goes a long way.
So for 2009; let’s all make our resolution (or one of our resolutions) to do our best and at least cutback on our meat consumption 50% or greater (realistically speaking). We can do this!
Let’s keep our animals in the wild and not on our plates or in our drive-thru bags :-)
One person really can change the world by convincing others to do the same, and those people will convince their friends, and so on. You can in fact change the minds of people you don’t know. Spread those PETA videos like a virus and I guarantee you that people will change; I did.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
