  • Wolfsoul,

So are you against KFC? I can’t parse your message.

I think what you’re saying is that it’s somehow it’s bad to wait until 1,000,000 people join? I’ll respond as if that’s what you’re saying.

Straight out KFC boycotts don’t work. Look at how much groups like PETA put into them, and they still aren’t making any headway. The reason they don’t work is because normal people don’t participate – only the crazies do. They don’t participate because they look at the size of KFC and they look at the size of little old them, and they realize that they’re not going to win. So why make a sacrifice if it’s not going to make a lick of difference?

By waiting until 1,000,000 people join, people will actually participate because they know they’ll be acting as part of a group that can actually create an economic condition that makes it in KFC’s best interest to change policy. This structure makes people feel like they matter, and that’s what’s needed to achieve change.

  • Wow Andrew, i think your post takes the cake for being the worst. I was amazed at how the comments posted above progressively became worse and worse until Wolfsoul’s came up (the only good one), and you criticized it like you know what you’re talking about, LOL. The reason the boycotts aren’t making enough headway is because hypocrites like yourself can sit back, do nothing, and say “why make a sacrifice if it’s not going to make a lick of difference?” Not because PETA isn’t doing enough.

“By waiting until 1,000,000 people join, people will actually participate” – the key word is WAIT here. Sounds like you enjoy criticizing from the comfort of your own sofa. I’ve “parsed” your post Andrew; it sucks.

  • It’s not hypocritical – it’s pragmatic.

And like it or not, pragmatists, not idealists, make up the majority. If you’re going to take on big issues, you need a strategy that resonates with the world view of normal people. We want to help, but we don’t want to waste their time.

I’m not glad that this is how it is, but this is how it is.
