As a short actress, I know how difficult it can be for petite woman to get a shot. Therefore, using my contacts, and a good chunk of my own funds, I am starting up Pretty In Petite, a modeling agency for women 5’8 and under. It is expected to be ready by November, we are still getting contacts together right now, after all who wants to have an agent with no contacts. We will be piggy backing off of a more known agency for the first few years, so we’ll see how that goes. What do you guys think about the idea?

sofia bella replied on Sep 7, 2008I love the sound of that. I have been discouraged to attempt to even try and approach an agency because I am only 5’4. But I am from the UK and I don’t know any agency which will consider smaller models.

pamela b replied on Sep 25, 2008That is a fabulous idea.
I think Petite girls are very attractive. and if the clothing fits right, I think the company would have no problem selling them if short girls modeled them.
i myself am 5’1 maybe 5’2 . I have very pretty legs that are in great shape, ready to be shown off to the world!! :]

sophie mitchell replied on Oct 28, 2008Hey Lorelei, i have read your comment about a petite modelling agency, this sounds like a brilliant idea. i have tried foe so long to get into the industry and never get anywhere because of my height. i find it quite unfair that this industry is only offered to taller girls, im just looking for a bit of information really. when are you hoping to open this agency and how would i be able to apply.
thanks

Fawn Svetovich replied on Nov 26, 2008yess please.
it’s about time that shorter women get recognized in the fashion industry.
it’s not fair that society cannot accept skinny models but it’s perfectly fine to accept the height standards. weight is something you can change, but you cannot change height. so are we supposed to acccept it for what it is? something we can’t change and there is no hope. i don’t think so. every one is stuck on the weight factor that no one pays attention to height. any weight and any body size is beautiful and so is any height.

Justin Young replied on Dec 20, 2008I would love to send some shirts that i made to have shot on some short models. I think that should be a good addition to the field myself. Lorelei Mahoney replied on Feb 1, 2009there is a slight delay in obtaining models, oddly enough it seems like not may are really wanting to get into the industry. As some exposure for you all, I can add your test shots to the web site once it’s done and see how it goes from there. Let me know if that is something you all would be interested in, it’d be under “fresh faces, fresh talent”

sophie mitchell replied on Mar 25, 2009Hi lorelie, just wondering how the modelling agency is going. I am 5 ft 1 and have got a collection of photos in my portfolio. I have been recently been trying to join agencies but as you well know height is a big issue. Is pretty in petite up and running yet and are you scouting for petite models at the moment.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Shelley Thomas replied on Dec 24, 2009i think this is a fabulous idea ! i get told all the timee “ohh you have such a nice prettyy look if only you were taller” ! i think its stupid to model you have to be 6 feet tall most guys like short curveier woman anyways ! im 5 feet and in great shapee and i want to provee a point !

Miroki Tong replied on Feb 9, 2010That’s pretty awesome Lorelei. I would be game to helping out however I can. I’m getting shots done in the near future that I can perhaps send you. I’m also a short actress, with the added insult of being “too short and ‘large’ for the wanted Asian actress”. I mean…just HOW many Asian women are tall anyways?! By large…they mean I’m too buxom and broad (since I work out a lot).
I think this Petite Campaign needs to also support short people who aren’t mini sized either. A lot of petite tops never fit me because it won’t go around my shoulders or chest…blah.

Darlisia Lyles replied on Mar 9, 2010I think this Campaign is a great idea! I am extremely short (4’11"). I have a hard time finding clothes that fit correctly and I have to constantly get my garments altered. This gets expensive at times because I have to alter so much at one time. I think women as short as I am are ignored in fashion. It’s almost like we don’t exist. I don’t model but I have a small curvy shape. I’m always down for learning. If you need some help I will most definitely be willing.

Mary Jane replied on Aug 6, 2010Lorelei, I’m really glad that you are working on that. I find it very important to show everyone out there what modeling REALLY means. It has to do with TALENT not height. Which people don’t understand at all. I’m 5’1 and I’m really interested in modeling and like other people that are short like me, find it difficult to get anywhere with it. It’s a passion we follow! I have so many ideas for this campaign, I am really interested in helping out in anyway I can.
Pretty in Petite sounds like an extraordinary idea! Where will it be done? I probably won’t be even close to that area where it’s being set up.
I will keep updated with your work!
