I love the sound of that. I have been discouraged to attempt to even try and approach an agency because I am only 5’4. But I am from the UK and I don’t know any agency which will consider smaller models.

The petite woman is the most ignored group when it comes to clothing. Everyone thinks that alternations are enough. But that’s not so. Merely hemming off 3 inches doesn’t take into account the inseam length or knee break, for example. Magazines are also ignoring actual petite fashion designers. These designers, who use shorter models can potentially change the world view of what a model looks like – a 5’3" size zero model will look much healthier (though still tiny) than her 6 foot counterpart of the same size. What we want to do is change this. We want the fashion world to GET the petites’ needs, to promote petite designers and use shorter models when necessary. It makes no sense to use someone 6’ tall to model 29" FULL LENGTH PANTS, does it? And if you require a petite designer to use a tall model, it completely goes against what the brand stands for!

As a short actress, I know how difficult it can be for petite woman to get a shot. Therefore, using my contacts, and a good chunk of my own funds, I am starting up Pretty In Petite, a modeling agency for women 5’8 and under. It is expected to be ready by November, we are still getting contacts together right now, after all who wants to have an agent with no contacts. We will be piggy backing off of a more known agency for the first few years, so we’ll see how that goes. What do you guys think about the idea?

pamela b replied on Sep 25, 2008That is a fabulous idea.
I think Petite girls are very attractive. and if the clothing fits right, I think the company would have no problem selling them if short girls modeled them.
i myself am 5’1 maybe 5’2 . I have very pretty legs that are in great shape, ready to be shown off to the world!! :]

sophie mitchell replied on Oct 28, 2008Hey Lorelei, i have read your comment about a petite modelling agency, this sounds like a brilliant idea. i have tried foe so long to get into the industry and never get anywhere because of my height. i find it quite unfair that this industry is only offered to taller girls, im just looking for a bit of information really. when are you hoping to open this agency and how would i be able to apply.
thanks

Fawn Svetovich replied on Nov 26, 2008yess please.
it’s about time that shorter women get recognized in the fashion industry.
it’s not fair that society cannot accept skinny models but it’s perfectly fine to accept the height standards. weight is something you can change, but you cannot change height. so are we supposed to acccept it for what it is? something we can’t change and there is no hope. i don’t think so. every one is stuck on the weight factor that no one pays attention to height. any weight and any body size is beautiful and so is any height.
