McG Gets the OK for an R-Rating announced over 2 years ago

Even with Christian Bale on board, Terminator 4 could be a travesty if released with a PG-13 rating; think Aliens Vs. Predator. The only motivation to release a PG-13 version of T4 is purely for monetization of another demographic, rather than building upon the legacy that James Cameron created. If we reach a tipping point of movie goers who will pass on the movie, it will nullify their motivation for a PG-13 release.

“He addressed the rating, and said there are only two people who would want the film to be PG-13 and they told him to make the picture and if it’s R-rated, it’s R-rated. There might be some wiggle room there.”

This doesn’t mean that they’ll deliver, though. We need to keep spreading the word!

neil kenes replied on Jun 25, 2008I do not see how they could possibly release it as PG 13… I mean, just the IMAGE of the terminator alone would place the movie in the R category at least by MY STANDARDS.
I personally think there is a LOT of STUFF on TV right now that is RATED PG-13 which should really be RATED R.
Stuff should not be against the LAW as in CENSORSHIP, just rather “rated” more appropriately as to serve what the INTENT of the SERVICE is for…
——I know this is a COMMENT I made is based on a different ANGLE than what you are RAISING ISSUE ABOUT. I understand where you are coming from though ~ YOU, being one who WANTS that “HEAVY DUTY R-RATED CONTENT in the feature” . I think that’s what you are saying if I am reading it correctly.
(I understand and respect your position)In the NAME of the INNOCENT child who needs proper guidance and nurturring in life to rise to be the TRUE PERSON the child can be, I hope you can value the moti0on of what I am getting at with relation to the notion that the STANDARDS or “ratings” if you will are not STRICT enough.
(I would say the same about the FERTILIZER and COSMETIC regulations as well.)It seems like alot of stuff in our society is “overly tripped out”

Andrew Hallock replied on Jul 1, 2008Neil,
I understand what you’re saying, but this campaign is strictly about getting a harsh, gritty, post-apocalyptic T4, not an ostensible mission to change the current ratings system.
You may want to start your own cause if you feel the ratings system is failing us.

Robert Todd replied on Jul 2, 2008the big problem here is the fact that the distributor 20th century fox has been revisiting old classics (die hard, combining alien and predator franchises) and giving them the Pg-13 rating in order to once again juice more money out.
an R rating limits the age range of 12 to 17 and in most cases these movies have fans of those ageseven worse the success of die hard 4 will give them even more incentive to believe that a pg-13 rating would do good business
its a shame, b/c i personally think its a hack way of trying to get money and its destroying old action classics that i love

Here’s what I’ve posted:
IMDB needs a bump, and we definitely need more board posts.

What’s crazy is that I wouldn’t have given Terminator 2 an R rating. That movie seemed awfully PG-13 to me. These days, though, it seems as though pandering for the dollar is more important. That said, Wanted is one of top 3 opening R-rated weekend grossers of all time, and that just came out.
Ultimately, though, without Cameron and the other usual suspects, I just don’t see how this film can do as well as T2. Look at what happened with T3. I think that film actually turned people off of the franchise. I know I was unimpressed.

Andrew Mason replied on Jul 3, 2008Yeah, my Dad took me to see Terminator 2 in the theater, I was like 13 or something.
It was/is the coolest thing that ever happened to me.
