“We are visitors on this planet. We are here for ninety or one hundred years at the very most. During that period, we must try to do something good, something useful, with our lives. If you contribute to other people’s happiness, you will find the true goal, the true meaning of life.” H.H. The 14th Dalai Lama
Well here’s your chance! Please share the campaign; that is what is needed and wanted. You can email it or post it to your Facebook or Twitter. Please!

Greetings Compassionistas!
We are about to cross the 75% mark and have 12 days to add @ 260 people. Sharing this campaign has opened my eyes and heart in ways I never expected. There are so many amazing people who recognize the unique time that we find ourselves in and share the desire to come together to build a better world. Thank you to everyone who joined the campaign and a special thank you to those that have shared it with your family and friends! You are making a difference AND we are not there yet.
Please share the campaign. You can send it out via e-mail or share it on Facebook and Twitter. This is the only way will add 260 people in the next 12 days.
The 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities is just a start. The campaign demonstrates that citizens care deeply about compassionate action and are ready and willing to hold themselves accountable for the quality of compassion that is experienced in their homes, schools, offices and throughout our city.
Our goal is to create a compassionate world, one city at a time. It takes awareness plus commitment to make personal as well as collective change. Other cities planning compassionate cities campaigns now include Bellevue, Bellingham, Portland, Issaquah, London, Lahore Pakistan, Spokane, San Francisco, Tacoma, Vancouver BC.
“The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical, and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves.”The Charter for Compassion

Our campaign has crossed the 50% mark. If we each add one member we will make our goal of 1,000 members by March 15th and launch our 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities.
The un-funded needs in our community are growing. Washington State is looking at a $2.8 billion short fall. Whether it is for schools, or human services, the budget constraints are real and the need to come together is greater than ever.
Please join with us to create a message of unity and compassion. Please send the campaign to others via email and share this via whatever social networks you are a part of.
Other cities are starting campaigns in our region in Bellevue, Bellingham, Issaquah, Portland, Spokane, San Francisco, Vancouver BC and other parts of the world as in London and Lahore, Pakistan!
If you need help, you can contact me at jramer@interraproject.org or at 206 526-2323.
I posted this short video on how to make a movement… enjoy!
With compassion,

Thanks to each of us we are now at 40% in our 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities!
Now, if we each sign up two people we will easily surpass the 1,000 members required. I urge you to send the campaign to your family and friends. Let’s show ourselves that we can organize this way to make change happen.
Compassion is a dynamic force in our polarized world. The campaign is a partnership between citizens and government officials. We can together restore compassion to the center of moral, religious, and civic life.
Cities are an ideal lever for change. Mayors are influential change agents and set the agenda for their cities, have resources to invest, and connect the local community with the national and global levels.
Campaigns are starting up all over from Vancouver BC, Bellingham, Bellevue, Issaquah, Spokane, Portland, San Francisco, as well all Lahore, Pakistan!
This is an example of social networks coming together for collective action. We ask that you do the following:
*Send the campaign via email
*Share the campaign on other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter
*Affirm the “Charter for Compassion”:www.charterforcompassion.org
*Join the “Compassionate Action Network”:www.compassionateactionnetwork.com
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to support in making this happen. Here’s to a compassionate future!

Greetings Compassionistas!
January 18th, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, was the 18th day of our 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities. Many of us observed the day with community service and were reinspired by his words: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Way We Change is Changing
As I think back on the struggle for change that defined Dr. King’s life it is clear that how we make change is changing. The ways we protest, organize non-violent resistance, direct actions, and how we “stand together” looks very different in our digitized world.
Through the use of Twitter, social networks and mobile phones millions of dollars were donated to Haiti in the hours after the earthquake. Google quickly put together a missing person widget for those looking for people in Haiti to connect with information about survivors. We can now use our collective capacity to bring about measurable and specific actions instantly. These skills are essential for making a “Beloved Community” in the 21st Century.
Building Our Capacity to “Do It Ourselves”
The 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities is an opportunity to make change happen as a collective force in a timely fashion. This campaign is different.
We are calling on the Mayor and City Council to act in partnership and take specific actions in exchange for our commitment to pledge time, talent, or treasure in support of our neighbors meeting their basic human needs. This is a campaign that organizes city government and its citizens in collaboration to make our home a Compassionate City.
You can review the details of the campaign here.
We are at 13% and we have to add 873 people to reach the tipping point by March 15th. For this to happen I ask that you share and send the campaign to others. Learning how to forward and send emails about campaigns as well as learning to share the campaign through social media, i.e. Facebook and Twitter, etc. is now part of civic life.

Now is the Time to Act
There will be 1,000 people who will make this happen. Will who you know be the ones who join? I invite you to join the CAN Board, and Bill Grace, Gifford, Libba and Marianna Pinchot, all three Interfaith Amigos, Eric Liu, Julia Sterkovsky, Victor Bremson, Ari Cowan, Alice Woldt, Joel Levey, Lori Markowitz, Sidney Genette, Dale Nienow, Susan Partnow, Heidi Felton, Roy King, Malcolm Best and many others in changing how we make change!
