Ten Year Compassionate Cities Campaign
OBJECTIVE
A 10 year commitment to Compassionate Action facilitated by city government and its citizens.
TERMS

If we reach at least 1,000 people by March 15, 2010, then the city affirms the Charter for Compassion and we commit to hours &/or dollars for public service.

THE PITCH

A Compassionate City recognizes compassion as an ethical imperative in its policies affecting human services. A Compassionate City deepens the quality and the extent to which its citizens embrace compassionate action in caring for its own neighbors.

Our long-term objective is to bring the world’s cities together over the next ten years to form a network of “Compassionate Cities.”

Our short-term objective is to have the Mayor and City Council declare Seattle a City of Compassion when we have 1,000 residents committed to the campaign.

Last thought: This experience has reinforced the wisdom of Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy and the importance of “first followers”. We are “first followers” for Karen Armstrong and the Charter for Compassion. I am grateful for your willingness to jump in and make this happen.

For those of you who have yet to see it I offer it one last time: http://my.compassionateactionnetwork.com/video/leadership-lessons-from

  • Hi Tim — Here’s what next with more details to follow:

    • On April 24th we are hosting Compassionate Seattle: It’s Up To Us! at the Center for Spiritual Living.
    • The day will be a compassion showcase, compassionate action exchange and a celebration.
    • One of the outcomes of the day is a report back to His Holiness the Dalai Lama
    • City Council President Richard Conlin with declare the Join proclamation that is bring written this week.
    • Attendees will be giving blank Compassionate Action Exchange “Gift Certificates”. You will put on the gift certificates your contact information and the gifts that you are willing to share, i.e. expertise at dynamic facilitation.
    • Exhibitors and panelists will identify their needs in advance and hopefully attendees will have gifts to share that match those needs. These gift certificates are transferable; so you can take a gift I have shared with you and pass it on to someone else. This is the compassionate action exchange part of the day.

I hope you will embrace the day as a way to strengthen the whole while building out your work. Let me know what other questions you have. Lot’s more detail to follow.

Thanks for your support in getting the campaign to tip!
