Well I wasn’t paying attention to this page for a week and I come back to find THIS? Jeez…

As we can see by Katrina’s reply to Minna (“anonymous” -thanks Minna), Katrina has opinions and has been able to post all of them here so the idea anyone is being prevented from speaking is bull…even if what they say is ridiculous. Maybe it’s mean or “unfair” to have the opinion that someone else’s views are ridiculous but I do, I’m sorry Katrina, I think your posts are ridiculous, there’s no other way to say it.

People would be able to have opinions under a privately owned site? Oh please. We know better than that already, all of us who were pink-slapped and silenced by GreedBay, the ultimate in privately owned sites. Katrina is also astonished that a people’s site could be free. Not even mentioning the free sites that exist (Webidz, Craigslist, etc), or the fact that ads finance all kinds of huge sites now, this page itself is a campaign (duh), with phases 1-4 spelled out. Maybe Katrina ought to do some reading before screaming bloody murder about our failings. “How is democracy going to rule…?” Probably they asked that in 1776 too, right? When whackos like Thomas Paine or Jefferson or Franklin were running around loose spreading ‘dangerous ideas.’

And: " Why wont people sell on line anymore. They are business people. Do they not understand times have changed. Prices have gone up across the board, and everywhere. Why havent theres gone up in line too. Trading has changed since ebay started, sellers appear not to have changed. "

See, this shows us what awaits us if we stay with GreedBay. This is the kind of buyer I’m happy to do without because she expects us to work like dogs, for dirt, while GreedBay reigns over us and calls it “what we asked for”. If prices have gone up all over, does that mean buyers like this will be willing to eat the fee increases via higher item costs? Yeah right. No, we’re supposed to keep our prices lower than Amazon-type retail, while also subsidizing the shipping cost, getting ripped off by the USPS, paying GreedBay more for nothing, and now even letting Paypal hold our money hostage for weeks, until buyers like this say it’s ok. And if they don’t, well, they can just keep stuff for free. There won’t be much we can do since, starting in May, we can’t even leave feedback. We’re supposed to ‘adapt’ to this cause times theys a-changing? Screw that! No, most of us have far too much self respect for this crap. And when we’ve gone, what will ebay be? Empty, that’s what.

More craziness: " As for the portal. That will only help a select few, those that are the larger of the sites. As you so clearly state, in so many words, the little sites dont get that much traffic. They will get even less under that type of syatem. "

Beg pardon, but WTF?! This is 100% backwards. If we had the universal search portal the small sites finally would get traffic. I could list two identical items, one on iOffer (#2 after eBay…way after) and one on OLA, and someone using the portal to search would see both of them equally. That’s the whole point of it. It would equalize traffic.

I’ve been ebay selling for many years and let me tell you Katrina, your whole idea of what ebay was and especially what the eBay Community was about is wrong, you obviously just don’t know what person-to-person trading (which ebay used to call itself) was. ‘Prices going up all over’ is hilarious in this scenario because the ebay company is a parasite on the sellers, who pay all their salaries while they do nothing for us but insult us. Now the cost of parasitism is going up too? It’s asinine, in fact it’s so asinine that 1000s of sellers have quit the ebay site already and 1000s more have been boycotting…and will continue these strike/boycott actions, the next one planned for the month of May. Those would be the business people you mentioned. And why are they fed up? Because you can’t run a business under a tyrant like GreedBay.

Finally: " No anonymus, this is not really about what is right or which is wrong. Its about power, people power and that is what concerns me and many others. "

I think Minna(anonymous) can be forgiven for thinking a Febay rat is at work here. If you’re worried about the evils of “people power” Katrina, maybe you really better stay with GreedBay. It’s the first I’ve heard of this rampant fear of democracy and if the “many others” are also terrified of freedom I think they may just be exactly who Donahoe is looking for, just the type that should stay for the GreedBay tyranny where imposing arbitrary policy from on high, then calling it “what we asked for” has been elevated to the status of a cult, complete with brainwashing. To each his own, right? And I really don’t think a paid Febay rat could do any better at throwing around accusations, distorting issues, or generally confusing a subject. But maybe it’s just me.

    Love,
    Anna

PS About other companies being greedy and no one doing anything, take a look at the other campaigns here on the Point…most are actions just like that, ex. “Killing Workers & Rotting Teeth: Time to boycott Coca-Cola” or “Stop the RIAA” or the one against Walmart for cheating workers, and there are many more. This is a site for people power, for collective action. It’s one of the few that’s free enough to tolerate open dissent against Greedbay and the usual eBay-speak lies.

  • See what i mean Anna.

Any opinion that is different from others and you get this. Under the arguements put by both you and Minna, its clear if someone says differently they are going to be targeted as you both have.

So, why dont you both answer the two main points i raised??

Just who is going to run this and who is going to pay for it all.?

It’s all very well saying the site will be a community effort. Some one has to control this and make decisions. What about upkeep, daily costs and mainenance. Where does the money come from??

I am primarily a buyer, but i do like to sell the odd item i no longer need. Where does it suggest i can benefit from this. What about the occasional seller.

Minna says it would be run by popular vote. Geez, you can’t get, as i said earlier, 20 to agree. How on earth are you going to get 10000 to agree.

I am not and never will be a Pheebay Rat, but having joined to support this, i don’t expect to be targeted by single minded people who can’t appreciate, accept or understand another persons reservations.

The principal of a community run site is fab, but it will never work when it will apply autocratic democracy as the very context of your two posts tends to suggest.

I have posted my reservations and instead of getting an honest reply, i get targeted. Thats not democracy in any shape or form. Its pure outright Autocracy.

I have made my points and i would like honest answers. If these answers and or assurances cannot be given, then pray tell me how this is going to work, or is it you just expect myself and many, many others to simply follow blindly what certain people have to say and just to accept that. Wheres the democracy there??.

So, can i say to you both. I want to support this, thats why i am posting here. Dont target me and my opinions. Instead show me assurances that all of what you are trying to do is in fact going to work and will in fact become a true peoples cooperative,

Sorry to say this to both of you, but if other peoples opinions, reservations and views cannot be accepted or answers given then this has no possible hope of ever succeeding. I will not be the last person to post here and air there reservations either, so think about your replies more carefully, as attacks such as this will only harm and may even derail your plans.

I joined this to support you people and the principal involved. I would not like to think i have made a bad decision.
