Hi ME -- glad to have you! I think we...

Hi ME — glad to have you! I think we all feel that way…now eBay has put us all at the mercy of a single schemer. Yes, scheming buyers are rare, but they are out there and now the new set-up will actually draw them, moths to a flame. That’s what I worry about. And it’s not just potential ‘feedback extortion’ anymore, but now PayPal comes into it too (real extortion, as Martin mentioned). And to top it off, a few con-artists will now be empowered by eBay/Paypal to actually knock even our future sales down in search rankings, while even powersellers can lose their ‘fee discount’ this way and be forced to pay FeeBay more! It’s such a transparently self-serving move on FeeBay’s part…there’s nothing to do but get away from them as soon as possible.

A lot of us have the same trouble with the smaller auction sites, too, no obvious good fit, and they all have so little traffic, relatively. I see the small sites as only a temporary measure, until a WeBay can be built, but even so, something has to be done for now. The idea in making a comparison chart to post here is that maybe some people, selling certain types of things, really can hang together and help each other, if there is a suitable site in existence for their kinds of products. We’ll all take a hit in prices, I think, because none of the smaller competitors can rival FeeBay buyer traffic now (hey, that’s why they’re _Fee_Bay after all, they gouge us because they can), so it will take something more, like a WeBay as unified common marketplace, to really solve our problem. For now a lot of people find themselves in the same spot, though, no niche market for their wares. The only one I’ve heard of so far that seems like it might be worth checking out for custom printed things is Etsy.com, which is apparently only for handmade things. But custom-printed seems like it could meet that criterion and one of the things mentioned to me as being sold there lately was screen-printed t-shirts so…maybe?

CC, are you here? Would Etsy work for custom-printed items? Does anyone else know where would be good for that?

  • hey Seller X,

“ME” just posted in the post above this one that his eBay store sells custom printed items!
Don’t really need to check in Etsy—most of their stuff is ‘crafty’ stuff. (nice stuff, for sure, but I wouldn’t look there for custom printed anything)

I’ve also read in the other posts about other less popular sites (eCrater, uBid, Bidville, etc). Problem for me is my sales do not “fit” those kind of sites. I sell custom printed items and eBay has been my “website” so to speak. If I leave them, I loose $2K per month with nowhere else to go. <quote>

Maybe now ME will have someplace to go!

    Hi Sandy and Seller X,

It’s ME and I’m a little slow at getting back on both of your posts. Thanks for the info. I have looked at eCrater and several others do have “nice” custom printed items as I do. Just don’t know if the site will be seen. I wrote them an email about advertising rates (not bad – no other fees) anyway they say they have 900,000 unique visitors and 6.6 million page reloads per month. I don’t know if that is good or bad compared to Feebay. It’s just that it is still ‘you own website’ so how do others find you unless you advertise. I just cannot believe that Feebay is doing this to us……WHY?

Anyway, Sandy you mentioned my quote and others in the same boat! But…what did you mean “Maybe no ME will have someplace to go?”

Today I got an email from the Point all about a forward motion on the SUBAT and the WEBAY development. I did not completely understand everything they are looking for, but I would like to help if possible and I would really like to see a major competitor to Feebay/Greedbay.

Any news will be most appreciated!
