After receiving over 3 billion in TARP money, AMEX has consistently, and what appears to be without regard to their cardholders’ credit scores, decreased existing credit lines on performing balances. AMEX has also engaged in the practice of canceling, or reducing available credit to its cardholders by tagging purchases in appointed locations as risk indicators. This practice is known as “redlining” and is overall considered inappropriate, or in some cases, illegal.
