Each year, 2.3 billion non-recyclable paper Starbucks cups go to landfill. Starbucks pledged to switch to a recyclable cup by 2015 — within SIX years.
That’s too long for us to wait. Eco-friendly hot cups, including compostable cups, exist TODAY.
In fact, Tully’s has been providing compostable cups to customers since 2007!
Starbucks should prove their dedication to environmental stewardship by switching to recyclable or compostable cups by the end of 2009.
You have a voice. And if 1,000 (or more!) of us demand this change at the same time, Starbucks will have to listen.
To make your opinion heard, go to the “My Starbucks Idea” page: http://mystarbucksidea.force.com/ideaHome.
Tell the company we want change now. The planet doesn’t have time for corporate foot dragging.

Thank you for joining the Starbucks Eco-Cup Switch campaign!
I started this group last January because I was fed up with Starbucks. They’re the largest specialty coffee retailer in the world, but they fail to take a leadership role in dealing with the waste their products create.
The easiest change for them to make is to switch to a recyclable or compostable cup, and ensure that their stores have recycling.
Starbucks is even willing to do this — but not until 2015. We have 375 members in our movement who say, “That’s too slow!”
When our group gets to 1,000 people we plan to simultaneously contact Starbucks and demand action now, not in six years!
*Please help us get there: Invite two people to join this Starbucks Eco-Cup Movement. Let’s get to 1,000 members before the end of the year! Let’s do it today! *
Spread the word on Twitter, Facebook page, and your blogs. Let’s show Starbucks that we seriously care about this issue and the environmental impact of their practices!
Thanks again,
Cat Lincoln

It started when I read a post by Jonathan Harris at Super Eco, Recycling: where do the bin contents go?.
In it, Jonathan mentions that he just discovered that Starbucks cups are not recyclable.
I was shocked, did some research, and wrote my own post on Tonic News: Starbucks Disposable Cups Are Not Recyclable Yet
Please tell everyone - your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers - about Starbucks, and this campaign.
At the very least, we want to send a message to the company that we care about the environment.
At best, Starbucks will listen to us and make the change to recyclable and/or compostable cups asap.
Thanks!
