THE PITCH

In 2006, I became the first independent candidate for Arkansas Governor on the ballot since 1940. To reach the ballot, I collected 10,000 registered voter signatures during March and April of 2006.

During the campaign, I spent $11,000 and received roughly sixteen thousand votes (that’s 70 cents per vote) compared to $9.96 per vote for Republican Asa Hutchinson and $13.57 for Governor Mike Beebe.

Chinese filmmaker Huixia Lu shot over 80 hours of film in my home, my birthplace, at my record store, of my band performing, and all over our wacky neighborhood and throughout the state of Arkansas.

She got great footage of my 1984 Mercedes that ran on waste vegetable oil. She filmed all of the events surrounding the campaign including students protesting to have me in the debates- some of them were escorted out by police.

The film will be an amazing slice of Arkansas politics and culture. When completed we will enter it into film festivals and sell the DVD to support my advocacy work.
