Monday, Oct. 29, beginning at 11 a.m. and going to early afternoon, Chicago’s Rider-Driver Alliance will stage a major protest at Federal Plaza, immediately followed by a “rolling demonstration” on the CTA to the homes of responsible public officials. Many bus drivers, riders, and community organizations will be joining us and we are asking you to do the same. Take the afternoon off from work and join us. If you work downtown, it’s a perfect opportunity.

This event will occur alongside Mayor Daley’s testimony at a federal transit hearing, where he will try to persuade Congress that we need lots of money for transit in order to support the Olympics. But our questions are: How can we hold the Olympics in a city with such a miserable transit record? And how can we trust an administration - already shown to be squandering our money - to use any new funds in a responsible way, in a way that we agree to?

I just got the message listed below. I really don’t think that’s helpful. I really would be angry if “the point” sent out a message like that to people I know about a campaign I sent out. What a real kick in the teeth to the organizer. FYI there were perhaps 40 people. Peter Z was interviewed on NPR, Dr Maat was on channel 7. It was a success. This “failure” message helps noone. Fact is, the point’s server is so slow that people probably give up before they could join the campiagn anyways.

: Hi Julie,

RDA Olympics” has closed in failure!

You can read all about it at the Campaign page by clicking here: http://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/rda-olympics

Thanks,
The Point

    Julie,
I apologize if this message was irritatting to receive. There are a few explanations this message.
First, the fact that the campaign on The Point failed does not mean that the event was a failure. It simply means that campaign on The Point failed to gather 100 people by the deadline.
Secondly, this message is more generally applied to all campaigns that close in failure, the majority of which are closed by the organizers of the campaign. Your campaign was automatically closed because it was created with a deadline that passed before the tipping point was reached. In an instance where the organizers voted to close the campaign of their own accord, their message would accompany this message, making it seem less cold and automatic.
And finally, we are working to change the automatic message for campaigns closed when a deadline is reached to be less disparaging, so thank you for your remarks.

Chicago’s Rider-Driver Alliance is demanding that the transit authorities stop the cuts threatened for their famous doomsday; that they open the books to us and give us a seat at the planning table; and that they not take this crisis out — not on our backs, at least — through their regressive tax plan, regressive fare hikes, and cuts and layoffs of transit workers where we need them most.

We’re asking you to commit to joining us Oct. 29 on or near your lunch hour. Bring a yellow T-shirt if you have one. We hope you can travel join us for the “rolling demonstration,” too!
