THE PITCH

Our representatives are grossly overpaid. According to http://www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/9… the base pay for senators and representatives is $162,100/ a year. So … 535 seats in both x $162,100 (leaving out the people that make way more, e.g. the speaker of the house, majority leaders) = $86,135,000/ a year to pay for them.

Is this worthwhile? Are we getting every penny worth? No. Are we getting every other penny worth? No.

We live in a time of corporate welfare where the government is working against us to keep us locked in oppression as proletariat slaves. Why do we allow them to do this with our money?

Take this into consideration: according to http://www.aft.org/salary/ the average salary for teachers is under $50,000 a year … why do we pay our representatives, who are supposed to be fighting for things like teachers’ salaries, and who are worth much less to us or our future, so damn much money?!?!?

Here is something I’ve been thinking about. What if congress had a salary that was pegged to the average American salary, or set it at 60% or so. Of course it is more complicated than this, and they need to have budgets to pay for flying back and forth and owning two houses, etc, but the idea is that their salaries should be tied to something real and not just a number that they make up.
