Here’s an early Christmas present for everyone. With Cerrato gone, we’re one step closer to saving our Redskins.

I’d like to think that all the message board postings, angry t-shirts, and our petition too, all had a hand in this change. (Can you believe there’s 1,874 people who signed this petition?)

Congrats to everyone and happy holidays,

Jonathan Mervis

P.S. What are your predictions for the next Redskins move?

  • We got one of our BIGGEST wishes answered! I hope we make the right moves going forward and get this boat going again. We have a very capable team that only needs a few pieces and GOOD leadership.

Also Danny boy needs to stick to business operations and let the football PROS put the football side of thing back in order.

I can see this as a possible first step to having a new Head Coach in DC and maybe a new QB or at least Bringing in someone that can take over in the next few years.

I can also see the Redskins keeping Campbell while we build an OLine and maybe groom a young QB to step in down the road if Campbell fails with a good (healthy)Oline in front of him.

  • One down One to Go !

With Allen coming in as the new GM…..Chuckie will not be far behind…Expect to see John Gruden as the next Head coach of the Redskins.

  • Larry Rubin

    I predict:

    1) Bruce Allen, as General Manager, places priority one on rebuilding the offensive and defensive lines for power, performance and back-up depth.

    2) Sherman Lewis becomes Offensive Coordinator advising Zorn, whom I believe will remain as head coach.

    3) Jason Campbell remains quarterback for next season

OK we all want Snyder out, but clearly no one on this petition has the 1.6 billion to actually make a reasonable offer.

I think the best way to move forward is to try a fan buyout and have the team publicly owned, like the Green Bay Packers.

Aside from Skins football, DC is known for power politics and high priced K street lawyers. Are there any on this list who can help craft a fan buyout?

I’ve been informed that the way to do this is to create a Special Purpose Acquisition Company and then offer an IPO to raise the funds. (Thanks to @aperlis for the knowledge)

Some numbers to think about: There’s about 6 million people in the DC area, according to wikipedia. If each person buys 1 share for $250, then that adds up to $1.5 billion. Now clearly not every person would buy into the plan, but some people would be eager to buy much more than 1 share.

Who wants to help me make this happen?

Hail to the Skins,

Jon Mervis

I suspect you could create something like Redskins, LLC that was public and owned say 30-70% of the team that would be fan owned (several sports teams are owned by public firms). Then the remaining 30-70% could be owned by one or more large investors. Then the NFL has it’s majority owner, and cuts the number of owners substantially. You could also play with the ownership to money committed (as some public companies do) so a few owners would control the team but fans would put up more of the money. Goldman Sachs loaned Danny boy some of the money to buy the team in 99, so I’d guess they could come up with a structure that would satisfy the NFL, today.

Good morning,

I started an open letter to Dan Snyder, wikipedia-style, that anyone can edit. I think it will be pretty powerful to have a letter written with 1,400 fan signatures on it.

The letter is here

We need to emphasis more respect for the fans. Right now he treats the fans as Cash Cows with some of the highest prices for tickets, concessions & parking. While I do not expect him to reduce any of these, we should demand a public appology for what he has done to the Redskins.

We flat out have a terrible fan experience. I have authored several letters complaining about a variety of obvious problems…one being the jersey walls separating the orange and green lots. They used be inside the green lot area (in other words they stole green lot spaces for the orange lot). You could tell this because the signs are painted green, orange, etc.

Well they fixed it this year…but they made up for it by shutting down the number of lanes going into the stadium for green and orange…and leaving 3 wide open for purple…with no wait whatsover. Unbelievably poor.

I have pleaded with them to start a fan experience focus group or advisory panel. You could solve a MILLION problems by engagement….

    All I hear is crickets…
