I’m on Metro Rock’s website, looking at the various classes, and just want to clarify: Today’s deal mentions a 90-minute class, so I assume it’s the “Basic Safety” class, not the 3-hour “Learn to Climb” course, right?

In March we featured a 90-minute beginner’s climbing safety lesson with MetroRock, Boston’s premier rock-climbing center. Today, back by popular demand, we’re offering another Groupon to MetroRock so those who missed out the first time can get in on the climbing action.
Today, $49 gets you a Groupon good for a 90-minute introductory class and a one-month membership (including free equipment rental) to either MetroRock location (69 Norman St. in Everett and 40 Parker St. in Newburyport). MetroRock offers top-notch instruction and indoor climbing in a friendly atmosphere for climbers of all levels. Buy two Groupons and learn how to climb with someone you trust. Buy three and learn to climb with someone you're highly suspicious of and someone you trust watching that person.
In this beginner's class, you’ll get a complete introduction to the rock-climbing world. The class is a great way for those who bought our first Groupon to continue their rock-climbing education. Learn more about:
- The equipment: How do I use a harness and what is a belay device?
- Knots: How do I best tie my rope to make sure I don’t fall?
- Belaying: What is this?
- Commands: How do I best communicate with my climbing partner?
Use what you learned in your introductory class with the one-month membership (normally $85) and free equipment rental (normally $9/day) this Groupon gets you at MetroRock. Both facilities have state-of-the-art, professionally crafted climbing walls.
Reviews
Associated Content called MetroRock “one of Boston’s best climbing gyms.” Yelpers give it four stars, with neophytes and experts agreeing on the great MetroRock climbing atmosphere:
- “I went there a couple of times at night and the crowd couldn't be better. And I once went there in the early afternoon and had dozens upon dozens of walls to myself and my partner.”– Dan M.
- “Great rock gym. They have a very large space to accommodate lots of boulderers and top-ropers with many different routes to try. They're sticklers about the belay test, but that's a plus. Friendly, helpful and accessible staff. It's a very welcoming atmosphere for all skill levels.” – Bryanne R.
- “What I particularly loved was the community there. Climb often enough and you meet people who share your schedule--and suddenly you're trading beta and approaching new challenges together.” – Nooney X.
Surgeon General's Rock-Climbing Warning
When rock climbing, balance may be disrupted by normal bodily functions (breathing, massive coronary attacks, etc.). The bodily function most disruptive to rock-climbing is child birth. Juggling a newborn at high altitudes is challenging (unless the umbilical chord is improbably tied in a belay harness at birth). Due to these risks, third-trimester pregnant women are not allowed to participate in today's amazing deal on a beginner's rock-climbing lesson.

Clare Densmore replied on Jun 16, 2009I would like to do you 3 hour class (http://metrorock.com/indoor-102.html) instead of the basic safety class (http://metrorock.com/indoor-101.html) Can i use this groupon toward that?

Jenn Dougherty replied on Jun 16, 2009I was wondering if you can use the groupon separately for the class and the month membership. ie – could I take the class in July, but not start my month membership until October? Or does the month start when I take the class?
Thanks.

Cassie C replied on Jun 16, 2009Hi Wendy,
If you are not interested in the beginner lesson, you are welcome to forgo the lesson and just use the 1 month unlimited pass. It does not matter whether you are a previous customer at MetroRock or not. Enjoy! :-)
Best,

Cassie C replied on Jun 16, 2009Hi Jennifer,
Your month membership will start when you take the class. You will not be able to take the class and then delay your membership until later.

Cassie C replied on Jun 16, 2009Hi Shannon and Clare,
The class included in this Groupon is a 90 Minute Introductory Class with equipment included, which is a special class not featured on their website.
I can see how you might be confused when you look on their website because it says the Learn to Climb class is available 9 am – noon. This is actually (2) 90 minute classes in that time frame, not a 3 hour class. The class that you get with this Groupon is not exactly the same as the Learn to Climb class.
You are not able to use this Groupon for any other class than this one, it is not transferable between different classes, but you are not obligated to take the class if you choose to just use the unlimited month membership part of this Groupon.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!
Best,
Cassie Cohen

Jessie Beers-Altman replied on Jun 16, 2009Sorry if this is covered elsewhere in the site…
Can you pick when you do the lesson and subsequent month of climbing? I mean, could I buy this today but use it in September? Is there an expiration?
Also, what are the “open climbing” hours that I can use for the month of membership once I’ve done the lesson?
-
Cassie C replied on Jun 16, 2009Hi Jessie,
You are able to take your class and start your month of unlimited membership anytime before this Groupon expires on 12/17/2009. (This information can also be found in the “Fine Print” box at the upper right hand corner of the Groupon write-up). Your month of unlimited membership will start when you take the class.
The hours can be found on their website, using the link we gave you in the write-up. Here is a direct link to the hours part of their site: http://metrorock.com/hours.html
I hope this helps to answer your questions!
Best,
Cassie Cohen

Jeremy Young replied on Oct 20, 2009Hi,
When I brought this groupon it said that it included equipment rental, as in:
“Use what you learned in your introductory class with the one-month membership (normally $85) and free equipment rental (normally $9/day) this Groupon gets you at MetroRock.”But redeeming it, they told me equipment rental was not included. The free equipment rental is what won me over on this groupon. What’s going on?
Jeremy
