This year measure AB 390 will be on California’s November ballot. It stipulates the legal cultivation, production, sale, use, and taxation of Cannabis sativa, more commonly known as marijuana for those 21 years of age and older. I urge all residents of California and absentees living elsewhere to make sure that your voter registration is current, and also to get out the word in support of this measure.
AB 390 will jumpstart our ambitions for a thriving green economy in a variety of ways. It will provide Californians with many thousands of new jobs in agriculture and cultivation, production and manufacture, small and big business, science and innovation, licensure and regulation, tourism and recreation. This state’s unemployed can get back to work at good jobs that will enable Californian’s to start saving and spending responsibly once more.
Not only will this measure pad the wallets of Californians; the production of hemp derived products will insulate our forests and trees that would otherwise be milled into paper from destruction. The growth of marijuana and resulting preservation of our forests would help to absorb Co2 emmisions. Marijuana as a plant would be beneficial to our state’s fertile soil; increasing our farmer’s ability to produce the many fruits, vegetables, and grains that nourish the United States and the world.
The legalization of marijuana would ease the strain on California’s borders, courts, and prisons. No longer will the harmless members of our communities be categoricaly equated with murderers, abusers, and thieves at the exspense of taxpayers. With the production of our own marijuana, this state could stop funding foriegn terror organizations and the corrupted governments influenced by drug cartels. With its taxation we can bring in much required revenue to invest in the education of our children so they may not turn to harmfull substance abuse that truly degrades individuals and tears lives and homes apart.
Finally, the realization of this measure will be a spark that starts a blaze of conciousness throught this nation, so that all the states of the United States can reap the benefits of the plant that the fathers of our nation grew and advocated for Americans to, “make the most of the Indian hemp seed and sow it everywhere (George Washington),” because “the greatest service that can be rendered to any country is to add a useful plant to its culture (Thomas Jefferson).”
