THE PITCH

The mental health system is in shambles. Even though we have the knowledge to help most people with mental health issues in their life a sizeable portion of those needing help do not recieve it. There are not enough resources availible and too many barriers to the services that do exist. And with this the budgets for mental health in most states are being slashed dramatically. For many people jail will not just be the biggest mental health center they know, it will be the only one. It is a disgrace that we tell people who have issues that affect 1 out 4 adults that they “cost too much.”

    グッチ　会社更生手続き中の半導体大手エルピーダメモリの支援企業を決める入札に、東芝と米半グッチバッグ導体大手マイクロン.テクノロジーがそれぞれ参加する方針を固めたことが３０日、分かった。４月末にかけて第１次、第２次入札があり、５月に支援企業候補を絞り込む予定。最終的に５社以上が応札するとみられる。

    　韓国の通信大手、ＳＫテレコグッチ財布ム傘下のハイニックス半導体は３０日、第１次入札に参加の意向を表明した。エルピーダ争奪戦が激化する可能性が出てきた。

Mental Health system in Tennessee

Dear Larry,

First of all, thanks for all of your hard work and dedication to this campaign. I have invited my husband who also works in the mental health field.

Our system in Tennessee is about to be effectively eliminated. The budget cuts and the governor’s failure to see the benefits of mental health treatment are going to leave tens of thousands of people with little or no care. Presently we have 49 peer support centers. These centers offer a place for people with mental illness to congregate, socialize, learn skills (such as cooking, computer skills, etc.) and get psychosocial education about their illnesses, medication and how to advocate for their rights. As of FY 2009/2010, 46 of our 49 peer centers will be closed. Because of the “suitable accommodations” bill, if someone is suicidal or homicidal and there is no bed available at the state mental health institutions, they are turned away and in the custody of the local sheriff’s office who is responsible for their care until a bed is available. These cuts are unconscionable.

I work for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the state office. Our organization’s budget is being cut by 35%. This has caused a reduction in staff hours and a reduction in the programs we offer.

I appreciate your work, Larry, in bringing this disgusting reality to light.

Thank you for joining. I look forward to hearing your ideas and you getting a chance to share your experience and wisdom with others.

Mental health is in trouble. We all know that. The mentally ill have been de facto judged to “cost too much.”

If enough of us share enough time and effort perhaps we can change the opinion of mental health care as a matter of political practicality and change it to a matter of moral purpose.
