You guys have GOT to be kidding me. Would you like to be one of the volunteer test subjects for pharmaceutical companies to test new drugs on and see what side effects they cause? Cause that’s what those animals do for YOU, so you don’t die of accidental overdose, side effects or adverse reactions from an untested drug. Ever taken an Ibuprofen for a headache? Guess where it came from. Bottom line: won’t happen. Sorry.

It’s a pity you feel so negative and cynical about this.
There is actually an alternative testing method known as ‘in vitro’, wherein cells and tissues outside of the body are tested in an artificial environment. These show, in fact, 11% higher accuracy than animal tests in determining toxicity (for example). Animal testing is Not necessary for product safety-checking, or testing in regards to human protection etc.
You mention Ibuprofen… More than 50% of drugs that have passed animal trial are later found unfit for human comsumption. One of the major problems with medical research is that it justifies the use of animals for studies that have no direst relationship with human health. We are not animals; our bodies and how we function differ, and so results in animals do not guarantee the same outcome in humans.The “bottom line” is actually: it is our responsibility to find safe and non-abusive alternatives for development and sustainability of human life. Animals are not below us in any way, and they do not deserve to suffer unnecessarily for us. It’s a shame you can’t see this.
