Time-Warner cable jacks up the volume of local commercial inserts on cable channels by 12 dB — enough to blow a subscriber out of bed if they’ve been watching a program at a comfortable level. Interestingly, this assault is mounted for cable stations only, whether by reason of plain pig-sloppiness or sabotage.
Regretfully, I’ve stopped watching MSNBC, Comedy Central and the Discovery Channel for this reason. The idea of anyone’s approaching Time-Warner Cable alone to complain about this is a non-starter, for obvious reasons.
As much as Time-Warner’s subscribers, cable networks are ultimately the losers here.
