THE PITCH

Net Neutrality is the principle of a free & open Internet. Telecoms like AT&T, Verizon, Comcast & Time Warner spend millions lobbying Congress to be able to filter content, & make sites they own faster than others. They set prices far higher than their costs would indicate they need to, & fail to improve & expand their service because they currently have no incentive to compete

The “Internet Freedom Preservation Act 2008”" may be a good step, but critics worry that any legislation will contain loopholes to allow censorship or else will be so rigid as to entirely prevent Internet Service Providers (ISPs) from stopping spamming & hacking. Ideally the Telcoms should self-regulate & actually compete against eachother to provide the fastest, cheapest, most open service.

Here’s the Net Neutrality Pledge we are asking ISPs to take. We will switch our internet service to the 1st ISP to take this pledge publicly (as long as they offer service where we live).

The Net Neutrality Pledge

The members of this campaign will switch our internet service to the first Internet Service Provider to publicly take this Net Neutrality pledge that provides service in our area.

  • We will not place restrictions on the kinds of equipment that may be used to access the network
  • We will not place restrictions on the modes of communication allowed
  • We will not place restrictions on content, sites or platforms
  • We will not implement unnecessary quality of service tiering model – where certain sites are faster than others if they pay a steep tax
  • We will not censor any sites content
  • We commit to pass profits on to our customers in the form of the best rates and service we can offer while maintaining a realistic budget to maintain and improve our infrastructure and customer service, as well as satisfy our shareholders.
  • We will not charge unnecessarily exorbitant rates on internet service, but rather keep our service package pricing in line with the actual costs it takes to support the service
  • In the spirit of true capitalism, we pledge not to collaborate with our competitors to keep prices high, but to compete against our competitors in an attempt to offer the best, most affordable internet service to the public.
  • We pledge to be constantly pushing towards a new frontier of faster, more reliable internet service.
  • We pledge to do our best to offer more broadband and faster service to our customers, and to bring the American ISP market up to speed with stronger providers overseas, such as in France where internet service that is 50x faster than American service is available for half the price
