OBJECTIVE
To meet our first benchmark of setting up 100 grants for distressed homeowners.
TERMS

If we reach at least $35,000 by November 30, 2008, then We will give money to: HouseStories to set up 100 grants.

THE PITCH

HouseStories (http://housestories.org) is dedicated to keeping home owners in their homes during these difficult economic times. We do not offer loans, but grants; creating a market by breaking a cycle of profit which has been destructive to many. Our program also offers participants the opportunity to contribute to our cultural history and to see their distress not as a loss, but as a history.

Most casual news readers believe the reason home owners are losing their homes is because they didn’t read their loan documents carefully, or took on more of a house than they should have, in an act of greed. Is this really the case for the 4 million people facing foreclosure in the United States alone? Or is this a convenient story with a small truth, allowing a few to profit, while remaining out of sight? It is our hope, the stories which are produced through our project, will let us know.

We are hoping to have the funds to provide help for our first 100 home owners this holiday season.
