THE PITCH

Launched in 2001, the BMA guides students through 40 weeks of intensive skills training where they learn basic education subject such as English and Math alongside topics pertinent to medical assisting such as anatomy and physiology, clinical skills, laboratory procedures, medical coding and bookkeeping, law and ethics, and patient relations among others as well as a 160-hour externship.

Accredited through CAAHEP and ACICS (no small feat for a nonprofit!), the BMA not only prepares fully bilingual individuals for healthcare careers, but is also the only medical assisting program in Chicago designed specifically to meet the needs of patients with limited English skills in order to increase access to quality healthcare.

As the program expands, and technology changes, the BMA is in need of some new instructional equipment including:

PT/INR
EKG machine
Cholesterol analyzer
Nebulizers
Pulse oximeter

Hi everyone-

There is only so much room up there to say all we should say about this wonderful program…so I’m stealing some room down here!

I was not able to squeeze in that CAAHEP accreditation allows graduates to become nationally certified through the American Association of Medical Assistsants thereby allowing for even greater career advancement and earning potential.

The BMA has changed countless lives – the lives of individuals and their familes! We see the changes every day. Students go through a total transformation during their time at NLEI – 40 weeks is a long time! So many have gone on to great careers and further education in undergraduate and nursing programs. For so many of our students – 99.9% of whom are low-income- the dream of working in the healthcare field seemed so far off, but with NLEI and their own hard work and determination, they have gone farther than they ever thought possible.

Now, with the economy as it is, our services are even higher in demand. People are really seeking employment in a job with high-demand and high growth potential and medical assisting is IT! The need for MAs is expecting tremendous growth…especially for those with invaluable Spanish/English bilingual skills. The equipment we need for the BMA will help to provide the most comprehensive and current training available for our students.

Please give what you can, when you can…and tell your friends. Thank you for your support!
