THE PITCH

Sure Sugar Gliders are cute and a perfect size but they are not your regular pet…they are exotic and very high maintenance animals and need special diets and very large cages. Perfect Pocket Pets lie to get sales. They are getting people who are uneducated the sugar gliders needs to buy them and in the end these suggies die to malnutrition and the owners say well perfect pocket pets said it was fine….please stop this all too common scenario from happening by boycotting and showing (ppp) we will not allow this anymore.

I tried to reply to the existing thread but for some reason I wasn’t able to. Let me start out by saying that I have never owned a sugar glider, and neither has anyone that I personally know.

What I do know is that I was absolutely horrified to see this company selling their animals and the home and garden show I went to this past weekend at our community expo center. People were there looking for workers to hire to landscape their yard, replace their roof or maybe to help with a kitchen or bathroom remodel. Amongst all these booths was this company trying to get people to take home these little creatures…..AS AN IMPULSE PURCHASE!

Are you kidding me?!?!?! At their booth, they had a book setup in front of a cage that was about 2×2×2. The book had pictures of all different sugar gliders playing with dogs and cats. I’m certain, knowing dogs and cats pretty well that these were very rare exception- type cases of interspecies bonding rather than normal ones.

Inside the cage itself I could see at least two tails sticking out from under a piece of felt that was covering who knows how many animals crowded together at the bottom of the cage. I was told that they could be sold individually for just $450 I could have the pellets, a heated rock, a cage (same size as all the available pets were being held it….together…) and if I wanted to add a second one, you know, just so they wouldn’t be lonely, they’d only charge me an additional $250. I was told that they would play and just be thrilled to be in that little cage, especially if they had a friend.

I didn’t buy one, I was interested in them, because well, they’re freakin’ cute! So I came home and did some research. A lot of what I found out deepened my feelings of discomfort about the way that the company, Perfect Pocket pets was conducting themselves.

I got my glider from someone who purchased it on a fri. got rid of it on the following mon. Do any of you realize how many of these little animals die before ever reaching thier"homes"? The amt of small reptiles, birds, rodents and gliders that suffer and die just so we can have a “cool” pet. We should just leave these animals in the wild where GOD intended them to be.I took my glider so that she wouldn’t be sold on the internet to someone else who decided she was to much work.Look at all the problems in Florida right now from people who got snakes and lizards no longer wanted them and let them go. They are now being HUNTED down and killed!!! All because of selfish people. Recently in Texas a large excotic animal warehouse was found to have over 270,000 small animals and reptiles dead inside thier facility.None of these animals are native to this country, they are shipped here in small boxes, cages and even bottles.Take care of what you have, but DON’T buy any more.

Hi, my name is Whitney and I am the organizer of this campaign… Here’ s a little about myself…. I am 17 years old yes I know young but dedicated. I have two sugar gliders Echo and Beau and I love them dearly and just in case you don’t know what a suggie is here’s a brief description:

The sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps) is a small arboreal marsupial that is found Australia, as well as in Tasmania, New Guinea, and the neighboring islands of Indonesia. The Sugar Glider is a member of the same order that includes kangaroos, opossums, wombats and Tasmanian devils.

I am here trying to stop Perfect Pocket Pets, Why?

Because Perfect Pocket Pets sells their sugar gliders to those who are uneducated to their care and needs. Sugar gliders needs are very serious.

1. They must be in pairs at the minimum. They are colonial animals and if kept alone can begin to self-mutilate due to boredom and loneliness.

2. There diet is extremely important…there are a few well known diets such as BML and HPW diets…these diets have been made by professionals who have study the sugar gliders natural diet in the wild… It contains the proteins, Veggies, and fruits that they need. They also have a specific calcium phosphorus ratio.

3. They need an extremely large cage. I mean there not called Sugar gliders for nothing. They love to glide and need the room to do so, they also live high in trees so there pouch needs to be high up in the cage.

Perfect Pocket Pets tells people that gliders can live off of a slice of apple and pellets. They also say that one glider is fine and that they only need a 2×2×2 ft cage which is way too small. My two Have 5 ft cage to themselves….Perfect Pocket Pets lie to get sales and the sugar gliders are the ones that are suffering due to it.

If u buy them and are uneducated that is your own fault. It is like buying any other kind of pet. Do your homework. We asked questions and thought about it and thought they were very different which they are. As far as having one just means you need to spend more time with it. Any animial requires time and attention and feeding. They can not take of themselves.
As farf as pockpets selling them to people who are not educated they make sure u learn everything. Most people do not know everything as these are of course thes are exoxtic pets. They send u daily emails and u can print out all kinds of info and watch videos and they also give u a lengthy cd to watch when u buy your little one.

So quit your belly aching and step up to plate and take care of your pets!!!!!

ps you are suppose to take them out of the cage and let them run in a small safe room in the house or purchase a small jr tent that is what i did. Let them run around on u in the tent or just on u they love it. u do not have a dog or cat just to look at, same thing.

Debbie is right…get informed! I am a sugarglider and my “parents” take good care of me! I get out often and run around the room with my tail up, sniffing everything and jumping on Mom when she isn’t looking. I love my diet and adore my treats prepared by Perfect Pocket Pets. Mom and Dad researched carefully and made an informed decision before I was adopted. Would I like a sibling, maybe, but it’s fun getting ALL the attention. Do I get fussy at times? Yes, but what teenager doesn’t? Mom had a few questions when they first adopted me and she contacted Perfect Pocket Pets and they replied immediately with knowlegable answers that helped all of us. One stop shopping for all my toys, food and vitamins. Hey, I even got my photo posted once! I am well cared for, came from a great place and live in a wonderful home with people who love me and take good care of me. Quit whining and get informed before you wrongly “educate” people. It’s uninformed people like you who cause turmoil in this world! (Mom told me to say that!) SO THERE!

Hey Debbie & Alvin..let me guess..you actually WORK for Perfect Pocket Pets??
Your entire posts just scream “I’m a Perfect Pocket Pets troll!!!”
I’m not worried though. I believe almost anybody who has ever had dealings with this company knows the lies they tell!!

Hi I’ve been interested in buying sugar gliders for some time now and have been doing exstensive research. one of the most valuable source i have found is the ASGV or association of sugar glider vetrinarians and although i have little knowledge about perfect pocket pets and was trying to find out more about them before purchasing (which is how i stumbled upon this page) from what you are describing you are the misinformed one. sugar glider babies are supposed to be kept in much smaller cages about 2×2×2 size in order to reduce stress durring removal until properly bonded with their owners and there are plenty of pellet type foods that are made especially for gliders. along with fruits and vegtables and the occaisional insect or even some human protien sources it is a very healthy diet. also they do not need to be sold in pairs or larger groups. it is recomended because if not they do need 2-4 hours of direct attention a day but there are plenty of healthy and happy singly owned sugar gliders. also sugar gliders are colony animals so their capabilities to get along with other pets are very high. just introduce them slowly to eachother and monitor their first interactions carefully and they should get along great

  • Maggie B

Uhhhh Scott? The ASGV website is OWNED by Perfect Pocket Pets alond with the vet! Everybody who owns a glider knows THAT!!!
Yeah….1000’s of glider owners are ALL wrong and crazy and we have no idea what we are talking about & only perfect pocket pets ( a company that sells these animals like shaw wows for a STUPID profit) knows the truth. They really care and want to help you!!
    What a joke.
You expect us to believe you don’t work for this company too?? Say hi to Alvin & debbie….

  • Scott Harrison

i realize this now as i said i was trying to find out more about them. i assure you that i do not work for perfect pocket pets and that i was just going off of the information i had found on the web so far. i did not call anybody crazy or clueless i used the word misinformed because i believed that’s what you were at the time. i do not believe that they sell the animals for stupid profit though because the breeder i found in my area that i plan on getting mine from is selling them for around the same price. the breeder is USDA liscenced by the way i found them on this site http://www.sugargliderhelp.com/links/pages/Sugar_Glider_Breeder_Database/index.html. the only thing that i can see them profiting off of is their merchandise for the sugar gliders which is very difficult to find anywhere else. If you could give me some valid sources that aren’t blogs or other types of unprofessional sources i would greatly appreciate it. also if you know anywhere that i could get supplies for my sugar gliders relatively cheap that would be wonderful because although i have plenty of time that i would love to devote to them and work a night shift so my schedule fits perfectly i am only 18 and do not have large amounts of money saved up to throw around and no parents to supply me with any extra funds

  • Maggie B

I apologize Scott. PPP is a large company and you would not believe the amount of “trolls” they have patroling these message boards waving their marketing banner around. To anyone that owns a glider it’s a nightmare. People see gliders and WANT to believe the PPP hype that they are easy and kid friendly and never need to go to the vet. They don’t want to hear from glider owners the truth. You will probably find that the reason that so many people don’t like PPP is because the first gliders they bought they bought FROM them. After you realize that you have been scammed it tends to make you a little mad….
The sugar glider help website is a good one. It is a hub site for many great glider places. One of them being Glider Central. If you come over there and register it is full of great people and great information. You can find about diet and cages and medical problems…and about a million other things that come with glider ownership.
You will also find WAY more PPP info than you wanted to know…..it’s sad :(
