IMPORTANT: Go with what we've got?

  • Hey, folks—

Election day is coming up. I’d like to make a motion that we switch our target to a 1/2 page ad in a smaller paper with a moderate readership in Ohio or Indiana.

I need to double check the procedures for doing this, but please respond in a discussion post if you are in favor. We do have a large chunk of money here, and I’d hate to see us not have an impact just because we’re not tipping the original goal amount.

    -Lizzy

  • Sounds good to me.

  • Great idea! I think southern Ohio should be the first priority because the strategists say we need Ohio to win the election.

  • Can we respond if we’re not in favor? :)

I’m open to the idea, but let me raise a few points.

First, I don’t think we should look at the fact that we didn’t raise enough money as a failure. I’d go as far as to call it a success.

I joined this campaign because I was concerned that the Republicans could win because of an enthusiasm for Sarah Palin that seemed oblivious to her ability to lead the country.

That initial excitement died down, and now it looks as if Palin may have hurt McCain more than she helped him.

In short, the ad turned out to not be necessary. If it had been necessary, I think more people would have joined and we would have raised enough to get it printed.

To me, it’s a validation of this model of fundraising. If we had run that ad, it would have been a waste of money. As it is, it appears we win all around – McCain/Palin will lose, and we’ll get to keep our money! (knock on wood…)

I’m happy to use my money a little differently. Would be nice to have the ad in the Enquirer, however, which endorsed McCain. But find to have it half page, nor full. And change of perspective is also fine.

  • Good idea – I think we should just go for it. If what we have so far affords a 1/2 pg ad, that’s better than nothing.

If you think an ad—regardless of size—might be helpful then I say go for it. I don’t think we should take anything for granted.

  • I like your idea, Lizzy, and I agree w/Julia about Ohio.

  • I’m sorry we couldn’t pull through with the necessary funds but, I do like your idea about shifting the direction. I’m all for it and back you 100%.

What about an informative website with small link ads in various magazines and/or local newspapers?

Or on a few small billboards, posters or flyers?

(I’m not sure how much that costs but, it’s an idea)

It could run for a week… and you can watch the hit counter and have a feedback forum.

  • I’d be down for using the money to put “SARAH PALIN IS A HALF-BREED MUSLIN” signs in swing states… no?

Hi, Lizzy. I also support this and agree to use my earlier contribution toward this smaller ad. Go for it! Thanks for organizing this! Best regards, Lisa

I live in Southern California, and I was just confronted today by a man asking me why I’m voting for Obama (I was wearing my Obama Mama t-shirt). Thankfully, it was a friendly debate, but in his first argument he mentioned Joe the Plumber (no, I’m not kidding) and, in his second argument it was the socialist thing. It’s obvious he really listens to these smears. ANyway, do with that info what you will…..

Ohio has 20 electoral votes. Gotta go with that.

  • i’m all for it!

  • You guys are as dumb as they come. The truth is shouting in your faces, but deaf all of you are. You rather live in a communist country? Please uproot yourself and go live in North Korea. Perhaps if all the liberals left then this nation can be great again. I hate to burst your dailykos, MSNBC, CBS, ABC and moveon bubbles, but your news outlets don’t report the truth…they report hate and lies. I’m suprised Obama man hasn’t said something to these people. Oh wait, he wouldn’t because he has to win right now. He’s willing to win on lies, that says a lot about him…and not to mention the people like you idiots that vote for him. Our country will be gone thanks to him. You guys might think that redistribution of wealth is sweet to you guys (free check in the mail…nothing is free), but you guys just think about how much more poorer people there will be in this country. Less people will work cause they get that free check in the mail that people making over $250K work so hard to get! Not to mention people that invest! There goes less investments! Not to mention prices will go up for overcompensation of taxes on the wealthy. How else are they going to afford the taxes, by raising their prices on merchandise. I really wish you guys could see past the moment. I also really hope, you don’t raise your money! Because the only way I see you getting to express your view about Sarah Palin is if you call up a radio talk show. Even then, I hope they hang up on you.

    Talk about dumb….

Thanks for the update. Yes, above all get an ad published, mention early voting if possible. Use the funds!

  • Democrats have gambled America’s money!!! Who has control of the senate??!! Are you all ready to have your freedoms taken away when Obama comes to office. Can you imagine him and Ayers in there rewritting the bill of rights? Joseph Smith (1st prophet to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) said that one day the Constitution will hang by a thread…looks like that could happen if Obama gets elected.

Obama/Biden have now lowered their tax rate to $150,000. Maybe by election they’ll be down to $50,000…I don’t think they have shared with the American people their full plan on raising taxes. Obama voted to raise taxes before for people making over $40,000…whose to say he won’t do it for the entire nation. Send us right into a depression he will do!

Instead of you guys nip-picking things here and there maybe you guys to should focus on the facts on both opponents and then you all would change over to McCain.

Joseph Smith also said he saw visions when he looked at rocks in a stove pipe hat!

Many aspects of the Constitution are hanging by a thread because of the Bush administration.

Your “facts” are wrong. I suggest you look in places other than Fox news for your information.

Jesus Lady Jane, take a chill-pill - you sound like you’re about to have a heart-attack. No need to get worked up - nothing you wrote has any basis in reality so don’t worry. Obama will get elected on Tuesday and we ain’t gonna go “communist”.
