This campaign is raising money to run a full-page ad in the Cincinnati Enquirer that cuts through the spin and tells the truth: Sarah Palin is wrong for women, dangerous for the war on terror, and is distracting voters from the fact that McCain has spent his entire career supporting policies that have allowed Wall Street to gamble away Americans’ retirement.
Our community will write the ad during the life of this campaign. Read the statement of principles and contribute your ideas to the ad’s wiki page. Once complete, we’ll repeat in crucial states through election day.
This campaign does not seek formal endorsements from politicians or organizations. It is 100% by the people, for the people.
We will print the names of as many contributors as possible in the ad (if you would not like your name printed, check the box to join anonymously).
We cannot afford to have Sarah Palin a heartbeat from the presidency. Please help.

Hey, folks—
Election day is coming up. I’d like to make a motion that we switch our target to a 1/2 page ad in a smaller paper with a moderate readership in Ohio or Indiana.
I need to double check the procedures for doing this, but please respond in a discussion post if you are in favor. We do have a large chunk of money here, and I’d hate to see us not have an impact just because we’re not tipping the original goal amount.

Jane Smith replied on Oct 30, 2008Lizzy, as for the “magical spectacles”…they were the Urim and Thummim. Hebrew term that means Lights and Perfections. An instrument prepared of God to assist man in obtaining revelation from the Lord and in translating languages. See in the Bible: Ex.28:30, Lev. 8:8, Num. 27-21, Deut. 33:8, 1st Sam. 28:6, Ezra 2:63, Neh. 7:65. Using a Urim and Thummim is the special prerogative of a seer, and it would seem reasonable that such instruments were used from the time of Adam. Joseph Smith said, “Also, that there were two stones in silver bows-and these stones, fastened to a breastplate, constituted what is called the Urim and Thummim-deposisted with the plates; and the possession and use of these stones were what constituted "seers” in ancient or former times; and that God had prepared them for the purpose of translating the book.(Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith-History 1:35). I know for some it’s hard to believe such a thing, but I and my religion believe the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healings, interpretation of tongues and so forth. Joseph Smith was not the only one to translate. Oliver Cowdery, who was Joseph’s scribe tried translating too.
But besides the point, yes I believe that Joseph Smith was stating a future revelation about our country when he said that the constitution would hang by a tread. In terms as people upholding it instead of finding ways to nip pick things out of it to change it. Why have there been so many liberal judges lately threatening the constitution? Why did the ACLU work so hard to try to take away our rights to pray in school? (Why are there more shootings in the schools today?) Obama will take away our rights to even own a gun, and how are we to protect our homes and our families from an intruder. I just don’t see why you and the others that have commented earlier don’t see it happening today and hear what Obama/Biden are saying. Soon there will only be a thread left of our constitution. I have heard people say, oh the wire tapping goes against our rights…I know that can seem bad, but we’re in a war against terrorists that have been waging for centuries but have only been brought to our soil in the last 30 or 40 years. So I’ll take the wire tapping any day if they can overhear a terrorist planning something…wouldn’t you? During WWII, same thing happened then except on a higher scale. The FBI just can’t pull leads out of the sky, they need all the help they can find. But mind me asking what do you think the Bush administration has done to take away from the consitution in your point of view? By the way, remember congress passes what the presidents think up for us Americans. Bush can say this and that what he would like to do, but only Congress has the final yes or no.
For those of you out there that think Fox news tanks, well I think they are well imformed. At least they don’t hold back information like the LA Times does. They search out and do research unlike the other news programs. I grew up watching ABC, NBC and CBS and when Fox news came around they were by far the best. I like to listen to Rush Limbaugh on the Radio as well. If you want fair & balance watch Hannity and Colmes on fox. Hannity is to the right and Colmes comes from the left. So you get both points of views on both side of the political sprectrum. I don’t just don’t see how you guys can turn the cheek against Obama’s relationship with Ayers and that paster Wright…they are so Anti-American, how could a president represent our country with those past ties that helped form who he is today?

How about the fact that John McCain hired a man who was a lobbyist for Saddam Hussein and is friends with G. Gordon Liddy?
Or that Sarah Palin supports the Alaska Independence Party. Talk about anti-American- she’s MARRIED to a secessionist!

OK, enough already! can we just agree to disagree? This is exactly what Obama is talking about. We have to put our differences aside, roll up our sleeves and get down to business. I think we can all agree that this country is in deep trouble and we all need to work hard to get it back on track. Use the money, place the ad, go vote and lets put it all behind us!

Hi, all-
OK, so we haven’t heard back from everyone, and time is short. Many of you wanted to support getting a smaller ad, but since we can’t change course without unanimous approval, I have a different proposal. Thank you all SO MUCH for joining. We can still be in this together. While it’s too late to put at ad in the paper, it is NOT too late to get on the phone and call people to get out the vote. If you’ve never done this, let me tell you, it feels great. It’s easy (instructions on www.mybarackobama.com). You’ll be contacting likely supporters with information about polling places, etc, making sure that everyone who WANTS to vote CAN vote. Let’s work as a group and be a part of history.
