Vietnam legacy of war
Boneita W. Smith said,
The long-term effect of an unpopular war is devastating to families. I will be burying my husband May 31, 2010 in Waitsburg, WA, 20 years after he died from wounds, lost both legs to his hips, he received in the Vietnam conflict. It took along time for me to find where he could rest in peace. His father wanted him in Arlington. I could not bear the distance and his mother wanted him in Seattle, but it was Waitsburg that embraced him when he returned. The Waitsburg Times followed and printed updates of his injuries and his progress. When he was stable enough a Waitsburg farmer invited him to hunt his field for pheasant. In Seattle he was jeered and at one point he was called a, I shit you not, “baby killer.” The war may end, but it’s never over. Bonne Smith
