My father is a Vietnam Veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The war left my father’s generation with many kinds of wounds and with unanswered questions, which have been passed on to me. In this piece I will explore some of those questions by going to Quang Tri Province. There I will examine the legacy of war, the questions that remain when war ends and how those questions affect people.
Quang Tri is considered the most severely bombed battleground in the history of the world, with the number of explosives dumped into the province estimated to be larger than the amount dropped in the whole of Europe during World War II. Today people in Quang Tri are still being killed by undetonated explosives. And instead of avoiding these dangerous devices, many farmers, unable to cultivate their land, now hunt out explosives to sell on the scrap metal market.
In January, I will travel to Vietnam to explore this story with photographer, Amanda Koster.

Hello All,
In case I missed saying thanks to anyone … I just wanted to convey my sincere gratitude to each one of you for helping me reach my goal of $500 on The Point. And to those who could not pledge, your encouragement on this endeavor is also appreciated.
The funds will hold my spot on a reporting trip to Vietnam with SalaamGarage. I still have some more fundraising to do before I head out in January — but you gave me a great start!
I will keep you posted on my fundraising progress and, eventually about what I learn in Vietnam, through my new blog/website. Expect an email announcing the site in the next week or so.
Sincerely,
Daysha

Thanks to all of you who helped me reach my goal of $500 on The Point. These funds will hold my place on the SalaamGarage reporting trip to Vietnam!
Because some people had trouble pledging, The Point has extended my deadline one more day, until midnight Tuesday (September 1st). Although I have reached my goal of $500, you can still pledge if you feel compelled to do so. All funds exceeding my $500 goal will go to the Salaam Garage Scholarship fund, to help other freelance and citizen journalists with their reporting expenses.
Read more about SalaamGarage here: http://salaamgarage.com/faqs/ And if a reporting trip with SalaamGarage sounds interesting to you, there are still 5 open spots on the Vietnam trip.
Expect to receive an introduction to my new blog/website in about a week. And thanks again for all of your pledges and for your words of encouragement!

Hi everyone,
If you’ve been meaning to pledge toward my reporting trip to Vietnam and you have not yet done so — this is your last chance. I need to gather the last $142 by midnight tonight (Monday, August 31) in order to reach my goal.
Thanks to the generous donations of my community, I am nearly 3/4 of the way to my goal of collecting $500 by September 1. The money will hold my spot on a reporting trip to vietnam with SalaamGarage: http://salaamgarage.com/the-trips/vietnam10/
In return for your pledge, I will be keeping you posted about what I learn during my trip through a blog. Here is a link previewing my new blog/website, which will officially launch in about a week: http://superstringers.wordpress.com/
Thanks in advance,
Daysha
