THE PITCH

It’s well known that Comcast’s has long focused on profit even to the detriment of its customers (see Mona Shaw http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_Shaw). Now, Comcast has taken its Comcastic corporate greed to a new level by blocking Comcast’s own customers from accessing internet-based video services.
BitTorrent, one of the services targeted by Comcast, recently published a statement in response to Comcast’s recent program stating, “To block BitTorrent traffic will cripple the basic Internet experience for students, innovators, consumers, artists and organizations that need it the most.” In addition, the company has partnerships with many of the same movie studios that sell the rights to distribute their movies to Comcast.

A lawsuit (http://www.gilbertrandolph.com/about-news-64.html ) was recently filed on behalf of Comcast customers who’s contracts were essentially breached by the blocking moves. The suit is strong, but will likely take some time to resolve. In addition, the FCC is probing the company’s actions, but that may not yield any fruit for consumers at all.

We the consumer must take the power back in our hands – and speak with our wallets.
