Chickens Changing Lives

Hello, all!

A great, big, feathery thank you for making this happen. Thanks to you all, I will be heading down to Nicaragua in January with $1,000 to buy some chickens.

This is exciting. In a time of serious food crisis, you have made a real difference in the lives of about two dozen women in Nicaragua, and the effects will ripple outward to their families and neighbors, too.

I’ll send an update from Masaya in early January to show you exactly where your donation is going.

Hello, Everyone!

What an amazing experience. Ever held a chicken? Did you know they can sleep in trees? I wanted to let you all know that Comunicada completed the first phase of the chickens project yesterday. We have not yet bought the new chickens with your contributions (and we have to wait a couple months for that), but you can meet the women who are receiving those chickens, and see photos of our first “Chicken Exchange” at the following link: www.lizzynicaragua2009.blogspot.com.

I spoke to many women who said that raising these chickens meant they could sleep at night, literally, knwoing that there was a safety net for their kids. These birds provide eggs and reliable income. Wow. Thank you all again.

Hello, Chicken-lovers!

First, a million thanks to those of you who have contributed so far. Time is running short, and I will be stepping off a plane in Nicaragua on January 5th. Will I have a check for $1,000 in my hand? Or will I have to explain that we needed a little more time?

If ever current member upgrades their pledge by $5, we can tip the campaign. My goal is to do so by Sunday.
