THE PITCH

We all know that Road Tax is needed for maintaining our roads and hopefully help combat the impact vehicles have on our environment, sadly though the current methods of paying our road tax are limited to two options ‘every 6 months or yearly’.
For a lot of us, we find that laying out a lump sum of money can often leave us short of cash, this can be due to a number of reasons such as vet bills, car repairs, sudden illness, retrenchment/redundancy.
Why can we not have the option to spread the cost over the year as we do with our car insurance?
Surely this would prompt more people to pay their Road Tax due to the average monthly cost seeming a small amount to pay to be road legal.
Please show your support for this campaign by joining me so that we can hopefully find a way to offer people (like myself) who can’t afford to make these large one off payments, an easier and more manageable option for being Road Legal!!!

Due to the new coalition government all ePetitions are currently suspended until further announcement later 2010, so I have not been able to create a formal petition as of yet and will not be able to do so until the announcement!

As soon as I am aware of the fact that ePetitions are being accepted by No.10 Downing St. I will create the petition…. I am hoping to gather support through this campaign so that once the ePetition is live, we will have enough supporters to make the petition formal and acceptable.

This campaign means a lot to me and I hope we can help a lot of people find an easier way to make their Road Tax payments.

As far as I am aware there is no other tax or service that only has the two options of payment ‘even your council tax can be paid by Monthly Direct Debit’

An example of how this would benefit the Government as well as the average man (using my current situation) works like this…. At the moment I need to pay approx. £112.00 for six months Road Tax….. I owe this much right now as a lump payment and cannot afford it due to a sudden change in circumstance but on a Monthly Direct Debit I would have to pay approx. £19.00 per month.
I could pay that right now….. if I had the option. So it will take me another month before I can ‘hopefully’ afford to make my Road Tax payment (realistically 2 months) during this time I would be breaking the law by using my car to get to work and the government would have no money from me but in that 3 months on the Direct Debit scheme they would have got £57.00 from me in a way I can afford by managing my money.

It makes sense and because you generally only run into unforeseen trouble for a month or two the Government would have actually received more money from you up to that point.

I am sure this could be argued but my personal view is that it would benefit all parties in the long run.
