QUEST FOR THE ONE BRICK: RULES AND INFO

The Quest for the One Brick is a wacky urban adventure.
Teams of two – four solve clues, have a wild city adventure and complete fun activities and inter-missions while discovering the city in a fresh way!

Objective: to have fun during this wild urban adventure, sample the best local businesses, learn about area non-profits, and earn as many points as possible along the way.

    CLUES:

Each team leader will be given one packet of clues at promptly at12pm. Your entire team must complete registration before you can get the clues. If you and your team have not completed registration by 12, you will not get your clues on time.

The clue packet will contain a list of 25 clues – some easy, some difficult, some downright awesome- that lead to checkpoint destinations. These destinations will be a mix of Groupon’s featured business, One Brick’s non-profit partners, and other points of interest around Chicago. There are activities at most of the checkpoint destinations that are worth additional points.

All photos documenting your activities must include the WHOLE team, and must include the orange brick given to your team with the clue packet.

The clue packet will contain a list of 10 inter-missions. Photos are the best form of documentation for the inter-missions. The brick must be included in these photos as well.

If the brick is not in all of the photos, you will not get all of the completion points (100 total possible).

None of the checkpoints or inter-missions are mandatory.

ALL Teams must check in at the Finish Line at Joe’s on Weed by 4pm. LATE ARRIVIAL WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION!

Clues may be completed in any order.

    POINTS:

There are three ways to earn points:

    1. Solve/decipher clues, visit the corresponding checkpoints, and participate in the activities available for additional points

    2. Complete and document inter-missions

    3. Donations and other “non-checkpoint” related clues as listed in the clue packet

To facilitate points-calculations at the end of the race, please be sure to check off on the clue packet all activities completed, have photos easily accessible on one camera or phone, and turn in all donations BEFORE having points checked.

    HELP OPTIONS:

People: Phone-a-friend, stop a stranger on the street, or mime with the street performers to help you answer clues. Just don’t ask event staff to give you the answers.

Technology: Use your GPS, laptop, mobile phone, or other internet-enabled device to help you answer clues and find your way.

    TRANSPORTATION:

Teams may only travel by foot or public transit. This includes Metra, any form of transit that accepts CTA cards, and water taxis.

Teams may not use any form of private transportation or accept any rides. This includes car-taxis, private cars, motorcycles, bicycles, in-line skates, pedicabs, horses, or any other form of private transportation.

During the event every Quest Team MUST:

Obey all local laws, regulations, and traffic laws. Participants are solely responsible for their actions and the consequences of those actions during the Quest for the One Brick.

Wear the official nametag at all times, in such a way that it is clearly visible.

Comply with the directions of One Brick event staff, local authorities, and property and/or venue owners and managers.

    Quest Teams may NOT:

Engage in unsportsmanlike or illegal conduct. Verbal or physical aggression towards the public, local officials, other participants, or One Brick staff, or acts of vandalism, theft, or harassment may result in disqualification from the race, at the discretion of One Brick staff.

    ADDITIONAL FINE PRINT:

One Brick staff reserves the right to disqualify any participant or team for any reason at any time.

A team’s time will be recorded when the last teammate arrives at the finish line at Joe’s on Weed St. and gets a stamp.

In the event of physical injury, sickness, accident or any other incident which may bring into question an individual’s ability to safely complete the race, One Brick staff may disqualify the team.

If more than one team is present at a challenge location at the same time, the teams will complete the challenge in the order in which they arrived. One Brick staff reserves the right to delay a team until the previous team has completed the challenge before allowing the next team to begin.

No registration refunds will be given for any reason.
