Fresh, Local Food for All Income Levels
OBJECTIVE
Help low-income community members shop at the Andersonville Farmers Market using their Link card!
TERMS

If we reach at least $500 by June 22, 2010, then The Andersonville Farmers Market will be able to accept Link transactions starting this summer!

THE PITCH

The Andersonville Farmers Market is working to make fresh, locally grown food available to people at all income levels.

The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, the market organizer, is committed to offering the Link program so that lower-income community members on cash assistance or SNAP (food stamps) can buy local produce and other food goods at the Market.

The start-up cost for the Link program is about $1,000. We need to purchase a wireless terminal to process Link transactions at the market (cost: $750). There are also wireless access fees ($15/month for 5 months) and a transaction fee ($.10) for every Link transaction.

We ask for the community’s help to make this program happen. As a small non-profit operating in a down economy, our budget is extremely tight. If you can help us raise $500, we’ll be able to cover the remainder of the expenses (including paying the fees for future market seasons).

Thank you for helping us make sustainable, locally-grown goods accessible for all!

A HUGE thank-you to all of you who donated to our campaign! Because of you, low-income community members will now be able to use their Link cards to buy fresh, local food at the Andersonville Farmers Market.

We’ll be purchasing our wireless processing terminal very soon and hope to have Link access up and running by the opening day of the market.

Be sure to stop by the information table at the market so that we can say thank-you in person!

Thanks for being a part of what makes Andersonville such an amazing community to live, work, and play in!

In case you’re wondering what a Link card is, here’s some information from the Illinois Dept. of Human Services:

Anyone approved to receive cash assistance or SNAP (Food Stamps) benefits will be issued an Illinois Link card. The Illinois Link card is a plastic card that looks and works like a debit card. If you are eligible for cash and SNAP benefits, you will access both with the same card.

For more information about the Link program, visit the Dept. of Human Services’ website at: link text
