As an education and policy university student in Nashville, TN, I have had limited experience with disempowerment. I have been struck by the unfilled need for programs that can educate and empower women less lucky than I. The struggles of these women have inspired me to try to help them in the only way I know how.
I want to research these programs around the world. How do they serve the girls who participate in them? How do they help build the communities they are a part of? What can we learn from their successes and their failures? What is the future of women in our world, and how can we change it?
Unfortunately, this project has proven expensive. I am raising money to fund my travel and accommodations as I volunteer with girls’ education programs around the world. At the end of my research, I will have worked with thousands of women, and will be able to give a voice to the underfunded and overstretched programs making a difference in girls’ lives and in their communities.
