About Change Congress

Congress will never vote in the interest of the people unless they escape their dependence on special interest. The Change Congress campaign, headed by Stanford law professor Lawrence Lessig, is fighting to remove special interest from the political equation. They are asking political candidates to make four pledges:

1. No money from lobbyists or PACs
2. Vote to end earmarks
3. Support reform to increase Congressional transparency
4. Support publicly-financed campaigns

Of course, just asking politicians to make promises is not enough. They must be held accountable. About Change Congress

Congress will never vote in the interest of the people unless they escape their dependence on special interest. The Change Congress campaign, headed by Stanford law professor Lawrence Lessig, is fighting to remove special interest from the political equation. They are asking political candidates to make four pledges:

1. No money from lobbyists or PACs
2. Vote to end earmarks
3. Support reform to increase Congressional transparency
4. Support publicly-financed campaigns

Of course, just asking politicians to make promises is not enough. They must be held accountable. That’s why Change Congress has created an online database where people can “tag” candidates, supplying evidence that they have upheld their pledge (or else evidence that they have failed to do so). To learn more about Change Congress’s strategy, visit change-congress.org/about. Watch one of the videos of Professor Lessig’s argument, and you’ll be certain to see the power of these four pledges.

How this Tipping Point Campaign Will Help Change Congress

The Change Congress campaign can only work if it has enough volunteers to research and document every candidate’s track record on each of the four pledges. They currently have a strong core of volunteers, but many more are needed. That’s why we’re asking 100 political bloggers to help jumpstart the process by contributing a tag and a blog post. Not only will the 100 tags be a meaningful addition to the Change Congress database, but their blog posts will also inspire thousands of readers to submit their own tags.

Be a part of the solution and make the pledge now. Best of all, you’ll know your contribution was worthwhile, because you’ll only have to do it if 99 other bloggers join you.

NB: You must be an active political blogger to join this campaign.
