Hey everyone!
As promised, here is the email template! If you have already written your own email, excellent work! But for those of you who need a guide, here it is!
Please remember to fill in your own name wherever it says [YOUR NAME HERE] (there are two places where you will need to make this change). And please feel free to make your own additions or changes to the letter—personal stories are always great.
When you’re ready to send the email, the address is boardofdirectors@bart.gov .
Dear BART Board of Directors,
My name is [YOUR NAME HERE], and I am writing to you today to voice my dissatisfaction with the fact that BART does not offer a discount program for Bay Area college students. BART is the primary mode of transportation for many college students, and I am grateful that you offer such a convenient and environmentally sustainable way for us to travel. However, my main criticism is that the ticket prices are not always affordable. Many full-time students find their education and work opportunities restricted by the high cost of commuting, and the BART Board of Directors could easily remedy this problem through a discount program.
I am aware that you currently offer discounts for both high school students and corporate commuters. College students face many of the same problems as the two aforementioned groups, but receive no relief. A daily commute can cost a college student almost $200 a month, and many students simply cannot afford that price. I encourage the BART Board of Directors to consider coordinating with Bay Area colleges and universities to ensure that students will no longer have to turn down great opportunities because they can’t afford the cost of a BART ride.
Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME HERE]
Thank you to everyone who joined the campaign!
Best wishes,
Elaine
