In your local cafes, bodegas, liquor stores and boutiques, ask for your purchase to be “green.” This will mean no plastic bag, handful of napkins, straws, plastic utensils, etc.
By having a name for “No, I don’t need a bag…that’s alright I don’t need napkins either….no, a fork won’t be necessary….” this step will be so effortless, our garbage production could plummet.
Less paper/plastic goods filling our trash cans will lead to less work for everyone! Build a better world!

In case no one is aware of the process, invites are sent using contacts culled from the appropriate channels. In this case, the environmental channel will be populated by campaigns whose members could be considered green and would therefore fit the profile of potential members. These contacts can be added to ones own contacts by visiting the ‘view all’ link in the upper left-hand corner of the Members window located on the campaign page. Once those contacts are added, sending invites is easy [if not tedious] and could tip this campaign fairly quickly. I have placed a campaign badge on the website,

Thank you for joining our campaign! It was recommended by the point that perhaps we narrow our cause to a specific location or store. If you live in New York City, or have a national suggestion, please let us know so we can get this underway!
Midtown bodegas are notorious for fistfuls of needless napkins, extra bags, etc. That could be a good place to start, especially if there were a few of us asking for our things to be “green.”
Thanks again for stopping by, and feel free to message suggestions! The important thing is that it happens, no matter how :-)
Thought you’d enjoy knowing that I live in SE Michigan and have been asking for it Green since joining this campaign. The other day, instead of doing that, I asked the employee, “Has anyone ever asked for it "Green,” meaning no straw, bag, packaging, etc?" I thought, if the answer is no, it’s a subtle way to introduce the idea; and if the answer is yes, I’ve learned something positive about how this campaign is taking off. They said yes and it turned into a nice little conversation about how cool it is to make that request.
I guess a related momentum-building suggestion would be to take our “I’ll have it Green” request beyond our own individual point-of-sales and encourage restaurants and their employees to “offer it Green.”
Maybe a link between that idea and the one proposed above (to narrow to a particular geo area or store) would be for people who sign on to have the option of being “GreenLinks:” evangelists/megaphones to those particular niches.
Just some two-cents-level brainstorming :) I’m enjoying this and am glad it’s underway!

That’s a wonderful idea! Thank you very much! It would be so great if, in addition to this space, there were others out there with similar ideas, also asking for their purchases to be “Green.” It’s a nice thought, at least!
There are certainly enough locally-driven groceries and stores in each of our hometowns to enlist a few owners to ‘offer it Green." Thanks a million for suggesting that! Loving the Link idea as well, let’s see what we can do! The only bummer is there are a few roadblocks within this site (such as only allowing one organizer per cause, etc), but hopefully we will eventually be able to designate certain members to a task force of some kind. Also, obviously anyone can choose to be a voice behind making our world a little greener, so I hope everyone will find their own way to contribute!
Feel free to be renegades for the cause across the nation :-) And send your success stories, like the one above; they’re always inspiring.
Thanks to everyone that has joined this campaign!
It would be wonderful to “tip” by election day, so please continue spreading the word.
Have a fabulous and safe Labor Day!
