THE PITCH

To power a home with solar panels requires an investment of $20,000 to $40,000. Even with tax rebates of 30-50%, few of us can afford that. As a result, only the most dedicated and wealthy tree huggers have adopted solar. On the supply side, most companies only do a few installations per year, and this low volume keeps the price prohibitively high. Let’s use the power of collective bargaining to negotiate for affordable solar.

What we’ll bring to the table:
100 people, located in and around Chicago, who agree to purchase a solar array sufficient to supply at least 50% of their energy use, conditional on a site evaluation and assessment. (i.e., If it turns out your location is not well suited for solar, you may opt out of the agreement)

What we’ll demand:
At least a 25% discount in both system and installation costs.
Free site evaluation/assessment for each household.
NABCEP certified install team.

    Yaay! Welcome to the campaign!

It’s a pretty complicated install, as most people will need to tie into the regular electric grid. That allows you to receive a credit for any excess energy that your system produces and it allows you to draw from the grid when your system is not producing enough energy.
Still, maybe we can help in some way. As long as I don’t have to touch electricity…

In the event that more than one vendor is able to satisfy the demands, we will submit each of their proposals and vote on which should be awarded the contract.
