Elton John and Billy Joel are two of pop's most respected elder statesmen. This year, they're teaming up for the Billy Joel and Elton John Face to Face Tour. Lucky for you, they're coming to Chicago and Wrigley Field, and with today's Groupon, you can see them for just $89. If that weren't a big enough deal, you can see them from the 3639 Wrigley Rooftop and get all you and eat and drink all night long. 3639 Wrigley Rooftop has great views for Cubs games and somewhat obstructed views for Sox games. It should be noted that from the rooftop, you can't really see the stage for concert performances (located in center field). But there's a reason why people consistently pay to see concerts from the rooftops.

When you go to a mega concert like this, unless you get there the night before with a tent, you're probably not going to be close enough to the stage to really see what's going on. In fact, you'll probably have a very distant view, but still be packed shoulder to shoulder with other fans, doing your best to stand on your toes and peer around tall dudes.

The big-concert feeling is almost more about experiencing the spectacle of thousands of people enjoying music together, feeling the excitement of the beginning of a song like "Only the Good Die Young." The emotional rollycoaster of live arena rock moves from joyous shrieks to cathartic tears when the soulful melancholy of a song like "Candle in the Wind" is magnified a thousand times as it resonates through each fan's heart, reflecting off the rafters back through everyone's hearts yet again, creating an echo chamber of bittersweet, heart-piercing euphoria.

The point is, you don't have to be close enough to see Elton John's disgusting sweat beads to experience that feeling. And it'd be nice to grab a drink without missing the best five songs from Yellow Brick Road while waiting in line. That's why the rooftop concert experience is so perfect. You get that exciting collective experience and can hear the performance as if you were in Wrigley bleacher seats. But instead, you can comfortably socialize with your friends, quickly access unlimited food and drinks, and use the bathroom in under 60 seconds. Get a group of friends together (buy up to eight tickets to each show) for this one-of-a-kind concert experience.

3639 Wrigley Rooftop piles fun onto an already heaping fun mound with a 70s party theme:

  • Contests: Best Elton and Billy lookalike, most outrageous Elton hat, craziest Elton glasses, and if Groupon's contest request is accepted, best drawing of Elton and Billy's heads attached to animal bodies
  • Prizes: Mini-iPod, Billy Joel and Elton John greatest hits CDs, dinner cruise for two on Chicago’s Odyssey Cruise line
  • Giveaways: disco balls, light-up party rings
  • Menu: Brinkley Burgers

Redeem your tickets at 3639 Wrigley Rooftop, located at 3639 Sheffield Ave. Similar tickets are going for $185 at Skybox on Sheffield, so act fast on this great deal.

Wrigley's Transformation into a Concert Venue

Since Andre Dawson's 1987 MVP season, Wrigley Field has been considered the preeminent concert venue in the country (by some people). The Hawk (a nickname teammates gave Dawson after learning of his love of hunting nearly extinct birds) began the 1987 season in an enormous slump and demanded that Cubs management either trade him or succumb to his superstitious slump-busting request: daily pre-game Earth, Wind & Fire concerts in the team clubhouse.

The team met his demands, but after only three weeks of playing uplifting pop music in a confined space, the band came up with its own request: a retractable, concert-grade stage in center field. The band's wish was granted, which helped Andre Dawson hit 49 home runs while getting caught stealing only three times, marking the beginning of Wrigley's reputation as the awesomest place to see Earth, Wind & Fire and the subsequent glorious musical acts to come.

this was probably overload for them. i was all about it and wish i could get it but i’m having the same problem.

The quantity of each Groupon varies from day to day, at the discretion of the business or organization who is offering the deal. There’s never any way for Groupon to know how popular something will be, but in cases where the “deal of the day” has a limited quantity, they can sometimes sell out in as quickly as an hour. When that happens, Groupon will often try to either offer a secondary deal or work with the organization/business for that day to bump up the quantity.

And probably the reason it’s saying XX number are still available, but then showing it as sold out is that some people may be in the process of entering their credit card info, so until the system knows if the transaction is completed, it’s reflected as sold-out.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, Not happy. it is 12:35 and still unavailable. Why is the clock still ticking if its sold out stop the clock.

  • Groupon

    Hi Everyone,

Nichole gave an excellent answer. What she said about the fact that sometimes there is a limited quantity available is exactly right, sometimes we are only able to sell a certain amount on behalf of the business. In cases like today where the Groupon is very popular, it can sell our very quickly, and I am so sorry for anyone who missed out! If you see that it looks like there are a few still available but it says Sold Out, it is still sold out, and no longer available for purchase.

Again, very sorry to anyone who missed out!

What time is the groupon posted in Chicago to get the deal of the day, I would have set my clock for this one. Still loving Groupon. You all are forgiven. Thanks for the explaination.

  • Amanda Cookingham

I received the email at 8:05am and there were already more than 100 sold. I bought at about 8:35am and I checked about 10 mins later to see about 16 left. Sold out very quickly.

  • Amanda Cookingham

    BTW, I’m in Chicago…
