The self-described gossip website JuicyCampus.com makes me sick to my stomach. I propose that we each write Franklin’s a cool dude on the site daily for a week. The site becomes boring and we all return to relegating your dirty secrets back where they belong: over glasses of wine and/or Ben and Jerry pints. Dudes are writing on this website too, so sorry for the wine and ice cream mention; feel free to return to beer, burps and gossip.
I love gossip as much as the next girl, but do we really need an online forum? Why not stick to the tried and true method of stabbing each other in the back orally? Concerns about future employment not to mention personal feelings.www.dailyillini.com/media/storage/paper736/news… and even safety top the list of relevant reasons for discouraging the sites use.
The New Jersey subpoena and the Pepperdine referendum both have had minimum success; in fact some argue have even further promoted the site by focusing media attention on it. Faulting the website legally is tricky, especially due to the legal terms and conditions of the site.
Now I’m not usually one for fighting fire with fire, but it seems to me a good way to combat an online website that takes no responsibility for its actions is with an online site that promotes responsibility and community action! We can use the powers of free speech for a more just cause than the jealous ex-boyfriend that spreads rumors of herpes, racism and homosexuality.
Here’s an articulate video on why Juicy should stay up. These alphakitties also inspired me to start this campaign. Hmm.
Any other news you want to read before you decide the site really does need to descend into the eighth circle of hell (Bolgia 8, I imagine) can be found here
Explanation of Tipping Point
There are approx. 60 schools on JuicyCampus currently; they plan on adding more before the start of the upcoming school year. 75 people gives us the man (or woman) power to spam enough of the site effectively, without asking for too much of a commitment from any members.
Gossiping is easy, shouldn’t this campaign be too?
